Halloween Havoc in Gotham - Halloween Pyre & Violet Owl

((I am posting this thread because our RP was interrupted by an ISP outage by my ISP right in the middle of our RP. My apologies to Halloween Pyre as he was the other player involved. I am hoping we can finish it here!))

-In the boiler room of the Town Hall in Gotham the Mayor has been infected with some kind of rage toxin as had much of the city. Batman and many of the heroes of Gotham had their hands full at the moment trying to suppress the raging denizens of the city. It was October 31st and while many people had started the evening having fun, it had quickly digressed to havoc.

The evil Mastermind known as Halloween Pyre had set the evening’s villainy in motion. He had captured the Mayor and managed to spread his rage toxin throughout the city. After a brief announcement on all of Gotham’s cable channels starring the pumkin headed villain, the terror started. People attacked one another and fights broke out all over the city.

The only hero that was close enough to try and stop the madman was Violet Owl. Violet was highly trained and utilized many different gadgets to stop the villains in Gotham. She had worked with and trained with Nightwing, Batwoman and Batman in the past. She felt confident that she could stop this madman and she tried to do so.

After dispatching his heavily armed brutes and taking a bullet to the ribs, she found herself in the basement of the building facing off against an enraged Mayor and a psycho with a pumpkin on his head. Violet felt his costume was appropriate for the day but it was a bit creepier then it should be. Still she had a raging Mayor and a cackling pumpkin to deal with.

She was already bleeding from the gunshot wound on her side and she was well aware that she had to use kid gloves against the Mayor. It was not a good situation at all for our heroine and she knew it. At least her sticky EMP bomb was able to shut down Halloween Pyre’s machine that would have enraged the entire city. Still, she was at a distinct disadvantage but she would never give up!

Re: Halloween Havoc in Gotham - Halloween Pyre & Violet Owl

"Aw, now look at what you've done!"

The grind-ridden, metallic voice of Halloween Pyre echoed across the cramped maintenance room.

"Do you have any idea how long it will take to fix this mess? You've just gone and spoiled my grand finale!"

An eerie silence fell upon the room as Pyre's voice subsided for a moment. Slowly, the room seemed to be covered with a strange, thin green mist...

"No matter, no matter...there is always next year. Still, right now, I can't quite let you get away with such a brash display, can I?"

The door to the maintenance room suddenly swung shut, a thunderous thud following as it did. The next moment, it fell off its hinges, only to reveal a most peculiar sight. A brick wall stood where once before there was a hole.

"Do tell me, are you aware of the body of work of one Doctor Jonathan Crane? I must admit to being quite a fan of his. Why, just recently, I had the pleasure to meet the man in person! He was gracious enough to allow me to do him some...peer review..."

As Pyre spoke, a pair of Jack O' Lantern eyes lit up in the pitch black shadows across from the Violet Owl. Then another pair came to life. And another. And another. One more. Soon, it appeared as if tens of pairs of Jack O' Lanterns were staring at the scene from the shadows.

“The Scarecrow, I know him.” Violet snapped. She held her right arm close to herself trying to cover the bleeding from the gunshot wound. “You are just as insane as he is.” Violet barked at Pyre. She readied herself to try and subdue the raging Mayor but that was before the brick wall appeared where the broken door had fallen from. “Trapped.” She thought. “This just gets better and better.” She grumbled to herself. The heroine thought she was prepared for anything but when the Jack O’ Lantern glowing eyes started to appear she was shaken.

One thing was clear. The Pyre had many tricks up his sleeve and he was using them. Violet Owl was not without her own tricks, however. She took a small capsule from her belt and tossed it in the middle of the floor. The capsule exploded into a bright white light which illuminated the entire room for a few seconds. The flash was bright enough to blind anyone who did not have flash protection for their eyes. Violet hoped this would give her just a few seconds to make her move against Pyre. She also hoped that the flash would also reveal the Jack O’ Lanterns for what they truly were. She readied her zip lines to try and wrap up the raging Mayor before he could attack as well as the man with the Pumpkin Head.

Halloween Havoc in Gotham - Halloween Pyre & Violet Owl

The white flash of light purged the shadows that shrouded the maintenance room. The Jack O' Lanterns went along with them, letting out metal-tinged screams as they vanished. For a moment, the place was bathed in white light.

When the light dissipated, the room was once again normal. The door was back where it was supposed to be, and the Mayor was seated with his back to the wall next to it.

"Dear God, what's happening!? " Hady blurted out, looking around at nothing with a panicked look on his pallid face. He let out a short, scared squeal as he noticed Violet Owl.

"What are you!? Get away from me!" Standing up with a strange amount of speed for a man his age, he hurried out the maintenance room, slamming the door behind him.

“Mister Mayor! Wait!” Violet called out to the man as the door slammed closed. “Great.” She muttered. She had lost the Mayor and worse, she had lost sight of Halloween Pyre. Violet was still in danger and as her training taught her she remained vigilant. She searched the boiler room looking for the Pumpkin Headed man. She remained cautious of the shadows as she past them. She was moving silently, however, she knew that for the moment the Pyre had the advantage.

“Come out pumpkin head. There is a room right next to your mentor in Arkham just waiting for you.” She said trying to get a rise out of Pyre. Violet hoped it would anger him and throw him off his game and lend the advantage to her. The bleeding from the gunshot had not slowed and she had lost a good amount of blood so far. The Owl knew that if she did not get Pyre now, she would have to retreat and try again another day.

As she crept along, her staff was held fast and ready as was her zip line. Her breathing deepened to huffing as the loss of blood was now starting to get to her. She had but one more shot at capturing the Halloween Pyre. Successful or not at least she was able to shut down his machine and stop his master plan. That was good for the people of Gotham but bad for her. Violet was sure she had made a permanent enemy out of the Pyre and she knew that whatever the outcome this evening it would be only the first in many head to head encounters in the future.

Halloween Havoc in Gotham - Halloween Pyre & Violet Owl

"Mentor? Oh, please, what do you take me for? Some second=rate wannabe? perhaps one of those new exobytten hotshots, looking to make their way to the top by riding the coat-tails of Gotham's cardre of crime? Do not take my admiration for the work of other scientists to be anything more than that, my dear." Pyre's voice once again reverberated across the maintenance room as he finally replied.

"Speaking of which, I must say I'm severely disappointed with the lack of reaction to the gas. I was promised a spectacular showing. Now I'm beginning to think Dr. Crane was playing me for a fool." A thud was heard somewhere far behind the Owl as Pyre landed on the floor from his hiding spot on the ceiling. He wiped a few bits of cement dust and liquid from his sleeves as he got to his feet, the air around him starting to distort as the temperature around him increased.

"Something to be learned from this whole endeavour, surely. If you need someone killed, kill them yourself."

Pyre held out his hand, a torrent of orange flames pouring out of the air in front of him and making a beeline towards the caped hero.

"You see, the lovely thing about Humans, and what one can ALWAYS count on is the immutable fact that. in the end, they ALL burn!"

Re: Halloween Havoc in Gotham - Halloween Pyre & Violet Owl

(Totally love that last line!)

The evil Halloween Pyre’s words echoed in her ears before the flames raced toward her. Violet Owl tried to spring from her position to avoid the incoming flames but was unsuccessful. The blast of the flames knocked her into the far wall and singed more than just her hair. The flame continued, following her to the wall. In a desperate attempt to live she flung a zip line grappling hook to a pipe above her head and yanked downward. She had no idea what was in the pipe but was very relieved to see water spraying out of the broken pipe and fighting back the flames. This gave her a second to breath.

With a deep breath and a semi-quick move, Violet disappeared into the shadows. For too long during this fight she was on the defensive. She had been reacting to what the Pyre was doing. Now was time for her to act and put him on the defensive. Three darts raced from the shadows embedding themselves into the large boiler tank the villain was standing next too. Hot steam began to spray out of the holes with high pressure at the Pumpkin Headed man. Whether it phased him or not, the Owl sprung from the shadows spinning her staff in an attempt to take the villain down. “Time to smash a pumpkin!”

Halloween Havoc in Gotham - Halloween Pyre & Violet Owl

"Hm? I can't quite hear you, dear, try screaming louder, would you kindly" Pyre stepped forward, continuing to funnel flames in the Owl's direction. Three objects came whistling through the damp boiler room ,whizzing past him entirely.

"Ah, a desperate attempt to fight back the inevitability of your own demise. Under normal circumstances, it'd be worth a round of applause, but right now, I hardly care for such trivilaities. Instead, I think I-"

Pyre paused for a moment as a new sound came from behind him. Turning his gaze, he saw the real target of Owl's attack; one of the Town Hall's old, massive boilers. The darts had managed to spring a leak in the pipes, sending a cloud of steam in his direction. Soon, he was covered in a white cloud. A metallic screech escaped Pyre's helmet as he was scorched inside the steam cloud.

"Damn!" he thought to himself as he swiped about in the cloud of steam. "Inside this humid cloud, I can hardly conjure up any flames! I must find my way out before-"

"CLANG!"

Violet Owl's staff made a reverb-heavy noise as it struck against the Jack O' Lantern wearing villain's helmet, sending him spinning in a circle and landing on the concrete floor, staring up at the ceiling.

Re: Halloween Havoc in Gotham - Halloween Pyre & Violet Owl

Violet placed the tip of her staff on the center of his chest. “Enough of this madness.” She said. It was obvious that she was beat up by this encounter yet somehow she had the drive to continue. Violet did not have much more in her and hoped that having him at such a disadvantage he would submit and make things easy. Violet was well aware that things were rarely easy. “Give up now and I am sure the justice system will show leniency.” She explained knowing full well that his destination would most likely be Arkham Asylum.

As she stood over him something came to her. At the beginning of this encounter Halloween Pyre had said that he had offered a hand in friendship to the city. Supposedly their declination is what sent him over the edge to his present course of action. Violet was curious and needed to know what had happened. She could not help but ask.

“You offered friendship to the city? Why did they decline? Is that what made you into this… Thing?” She asked him keeping the tip of her staff pressed against his chest.
