A Day for Heroes (Closed)

A Day For Heroes

The news had made the announcement; it would be rather large event, where the citizens of Metropolis would give thanks to heroes other than Superman, who already had his own day and statue. Today would be about the rest of them, and as a special guest, they invited Powergirl to speak. No one knew if she’d show up… But she had heard the broadcast and decided to show anyhow.

Held in Centinnial Park, in the shadow of the Superman Statue, the stage was set up with a podium, several chairs on the stage, including one for the mayor and city Council, as well as special guests. The park was full, thousands of people had come out to pay their respects or cheer the respective heroes.

You saw several heroes already there, many local of course, but the big question mark was, would Powergirl show up? Would any of the former Justice Tribunal show up? For now, the crowd waited with baited breath as the mayor walked to the podium.

“ First off, I’d like to thank everyone who has come here today. We all come for one special thing, to celebrate the brave men, women, and aliens who put their lives on the line for us. Not everyone is Superman, or Supergirl, indeed there are many others who deserve our respect and deserve to know hey, we appreciate you, so I’d like to be the first to kick off A Day For Heroes!” The crowd roared in reply as he clapped, a view screen showed several images of heroes on them, all in heroic acts.

Backstage Powergirl would land, the small, Serbian girl in her arms. She sat her down then paced back and forth. “Hmm.. not sure what I should say…” She said.

“Just be…inspirational, and reassure the people is all. Remember, you’re the only Powergirl, you have saved thousands, just be yourself…” she said.

“Right, right, myself…” Galatea replied.

“Powergirl, you’re on in 5 minutes!” One of the stage hands said.

“Alright, I’ll be ready.” She replied.

Meanwhile on the stage, a random street level heroine was talking, getting some cheers and hoots and hollers as she went on about her life and why she does this.

In the audience, a woman with long, red hair, black pants and a tank top sat patiently, flanked by two men in suits. She smirked as she watched the heroes closely. Anyone with an ability to detect magic would detect a rather strong aura of it around her.

“Soon boys, we’ll play and give these people something to remember…”

Re: A Day for Heroes

Public events like these had been a...mixed experience for Jaeger so far. On one hand, Earth's people often were legitimately, heart-warmingly grateful towards him and the other heroes fighting to protect them on a daily basis. On the other hand...gross stereotypes regarding anything with tentacles, lewd rumors involving Supergirl and said tendrils spawned from certain segments of her fanbase, and the tendency of some to get very...vocal and adamant about their support for the ideals Superman and much of the Justice League championed.

Altogether, those lingering issues alone would have been enough for Jaeger to think twice about participating in this ceremony, but the promise that "Powergirl" would be showing up sealed the deal.

While Galetaea spoke with the Serbian girl backstage, Jaeger stood amidst the crowd with civilian clothing concealing Weaver and one of his prized Wonderwoman hoodies drawn up to hide his white hair and other supernaturally distinctive features.

He had been following the news coverage about her as best as he could. The "new" Powergirl who stepped up when the original was rendered powerless had attracted quite a following in the short time she had been battling crime with her...interesting mixture of heroism and calculated brutality. But a new costume and a seemingly new outlook on life were not enough to make Jaeger forget the face and voice that were burned into his mind now.

His hands balled into fists inside his pockets.

Whatever game Galetaea thought she was playing, she wouldn't be able to evade him today. Whatever prompted her to make this public appearance, arrogance, sadism, or perhaps even their last and most harrowing clash to date having a lasting impact upon the Apokoliptian Fury...Jaeger would have his answers.

<My Jaeger...>

Weaver tugged on him mentally. The crimson-haired woman's aura was sensed almost immediately.

<Weaver, not this time! Please! We-I- can't let Galetaea slip away this time. And this heroine does deserve our respect and appreciation as well. Sometimes heroes that are peers to the Earth's favorites go unremarked and under-appreciated because they just aren't as well...entrenched as the others...>

Weaver didn't reply in words. She just gave him another, harder, mental tug. The Void Entity was confident that they could catch Galetaea if she tried to fly off now that they were supposedly on the scene with her. But this potent magic was unknown, uncertain component in all this...

Jaeger sighed as his partner refused to give in and slowly shifted back into the crowed. His eyes were fixed on the stage still as he applauded for the heroine giving her speech, but he was definitely advancing step by step towards the woman and the two men. A compromise between the Ysherian and his partner.

Re: A Day for Heroes

She cleared her throat as she stepped up to the podium and looked out amongst the crowd of people, she then cleared her throat again and exhaled deeply.

"Right.. Greetings citizens of Metropolis, and of the world. First off let me say, thanks for this event in my honor. I know it was not easy recently, with the Justice Tribunal disbanding and me going missing, with Superman and Supergirl being off doing things in other lands, it left you feeling vulnerable. For that, I apologize." She looked down, then back up.

"Before I left, I was a selfish, arrogant little girl. I believed might makes right, that I could just... punch my way out of any problem. I believed I was better than you. It's why when I came back, I had a entirely new look and new outlook, you could say I was a new...person. now that I am back know this, citizens of the world... I will no longer pull my punches, I will no longer hold back. To long have I held back, only for people to die as a result of it. This NEW Powergirl is here for one thing, to protect you, the people from threats too large for you to handle. That's my job, and as you've seen since I have returned I do a damn good job."

She got Applause from that line, which made her smile.

"I got fitter, better trained, and a new outfit, i'm ready to go, so again, thank you all, and know i'm on the job."

With that the entire crowd erupted in thunderous applause and cheering, to which she smiled wider at.

The Serbian girl smirked as well, arms crossed, watching "Powergirl" levitate as the crowd chanted. "POWERGIRL! POWERGIRL! POWERGIRL!"

Re: A Day for Heroes

Just then, there was a sonic boom and in a blur… Power Girl appeared. She looked at the crowd and then at the imposter. “Why are you lying to all these people?” She was still hovering. “Do you all want to know why I was gone for a month? I was injured and I was recovering. I was not gone, not dead, and not wherever this one came from. I am Kara Zor-L of Krypton and I am Power Girl.”

The crowd was instantly silent as they looked over the two. Kara was in her white leotards and red cape with blue boots and gloves. She was smaller than Galatea in her chest, and in stature. Her muscles were not as well defined, but were still toned. She was the Power Girl that everyone knew.

She looked at Galatea now. “If you doubt me, call out to Supergirl. Ask her who is real. She knows the truth and everyone knows she never lies… ever. If that is not enough, call out to Superman himself. I have watched you take credit for what I accomplished over the years and I was silent. I was happy to see you had changed from who you were, but I cannot allow you to take credit any longer. I will admit that you have been busy and have saved lots of lives but…”

She paused and then started saying names. “Brian Wilcox. Died while tangling with you. Heat vision to the skull, cause he dared fight you. He was a thug, but he did not deserve death. Victor Jones. Criminal that could create electrical pulses. Called himself the Amazing Spark. He tried to rob a bank and was killed when you crushed his skull. Do I need to go on? You murdered, no… executed those criminals because you thought that your way was the law. No longer. I will not stand by and let you hold the world hostage to your lies any longer. I am Power Girl!”

The crowd did not know what to do, but one man that had watched Galatea dispense justice on a street gang, cheered. “Power Girl! Power Girl!” He chanted and others joined. Soon, the crowd was on Kara’s side… or were they?

Re: A Day for Heroes

For a Super Hero day, it brought out all sort of reporters, one of them was Samantha Ainsworth. She decided she would cover the event, to see what was all about. It seem Powergirl might be their big attraction, which she believes doesn't deserve to be called a hero. She also heard about another Powergirl out there and was interesting to see her and learn about her.

"This is Samantha Ainsworth who is currently at the Super Hero day. It's a day to celebrate all heroes! It is at the Superman Statue at Centennial Park. She takes the camera to show all the people that are there, the set up and the numerous heroes that showed up.

Adora also showed up to find out what is going on herself. She not sure if this was a good thing or not, but figure she will come any ways. She didn't come to get an award, but more like look out for trouble. Events like this usually might draw out villains to try and take an advantage and attack. She was sensing some dark magic and was on the look out now. Then she say the New Powergirl arrive to speak and not sure what to think of her.

Samantha sees her arrive "Here comes Powergirl!" The way she spoke she was questioning who she is. She knew she wasn't the real one considering all the run ins with her. "Here comes Powergirl!" When Kara arrived ad now she is questioning the New Powergirl about the things she did.

She can't help but throw fuel on the fire "Why do you need Supergirl to fight your battle? What makes you any better? What about the stuff you do? How are you any better?" She knew she would piss off Karen.

Re: A Day for Heroes

The woman in red, with the two men flanking her smirked as the second Powergirl showed up. “Hmm, interesting…which is the real one though I wonder…” the woman said, the dark magic growing exponentially around her. It’d be quite obvious now to Jaeger and Adora that some serious magic was gathering in the area.
“Get ready… We’ll kill them both in one go.” She said calmly.

Galatea meanwhile stared at Powergirl, a long moment, eyes narrowed. “This is what I am speaking of, citizens, these… people.. are more concerned about themselves than the big picture, helping all of you. This woman flies in here with one goal in mind; to disrupt this event. Now she questions me, tells me to call on others to “prove” one thing or another, what does your heart tell you? This woman wears the old colors, the old garb. She represents the past! The selfishness, the destruction, the infighting. I represent the future!”

She said, then looked out to the crowd. “I did kill and injure those people, but only because I had to. If I had not, perhaps they’d murdered one of you, shot one of you, raped one of you. I am bulletproof, I can take it, but you can’t. How many officers die due to these “Heroes” letting people go time and again during their escapes? Too many to count.. Good people of the world, I’m the TRUE Powergirl, the one worthy of the name, of your adoration, of your worship! I will protect you, keep you safe, and punish those who threaten harm. So tell this…impostor, this…memory to go back to her rock, because the REAL Powergirl is here!”

She then looked to the reporter and to Powergirl. “She needs Supergirl because she’s not strong enough… even combined they wouldn’t get it done. I have a meeting with Thundergirl later, so once you all dismiss this...memory, I shall return to doing my job.

Re: A Day for Heroes

With all the people around, Adora was having a somewhat of a trouble locating the dark magic to the user. Appears it's not the only magic user around, she can also sense Jaeger and Weaver which throwing her off a bit. She is short so seeing through the crowd was hard, so she decided to float up some to get a better view.

Samantha wasn't the only journalist had to show up, so did Melinda Mills with her anti-alien news, also protestors would show up to to protest the two aliens. "GO HOME ALIENS GO HOME ALIENS" They would be yelling at that with multiple signs, then come close to Samantha and smirk at her as she stood next to her since they are rivals.

Samantha shook her head at Galeteaa and walk over to her. "Why do you want to be called Powergirl? Not like the name has the best reputation plus we already have one. Wh don't you want to start fresh with a new name where people will get to know you. Why not call yourself Power Woman or something else?"

Re: A Day for Heroes

The chanting and sheer rage from the Anti-Alien protesters lit the park up like a candle to Alarius Tulane. Having not wanted a thing to do with Hero Day, he decided to just spend the day in his penthouse catching up on all of the reading he had missed out on over the near-century of self-exile. Having been reading a piece of 1950's sci-fi, the ring refused to form the Biker costume like he had saw in Metropolis and instead formed one like the 'Rocket Rangers' in the book. Even the Jet Pack he strapped on changed to match the one in the book. "Bloody hell," he cursed as he flew towards the festivities. The Rageheart Ring glowed bright red and formed a spikey construct of red light over his hands as he entered the view of the crowd. "Everyone, please calm down," he pleaded with the crowd as the ring translated his words into the native language of every participant in thw festivities for their ears only. "We can... Solve this... Without... Vio... lence..."
