posticon The New and Improved Chat Channel Guide

First of all, Welcome to DCUORP.

If you are here, you are ready to setup for Role Playing in the DC Universe Online.

We have many channels you will need and you will find it very confusing if you don't set up properly. So for those that know how to set up the channels already. I will show you the names and let you have at it. But for those that need a helping hand, here is the place.

So the channels.

rp - This is the Out of Character (OOC) channel. All of the RP starts out here. We discuss DC comics, characters, and lore here. Please refrain from topics such as politics, religion, and current events in the news. Also keep in mind that not everyone is in the same country.

metrorp - This is an In Character (IC) channel for events that are within Metropolis.

metrorp2 - This is an In Character (IC) channel for events that are within Metropolis. (Overflow)

gothamrp - This is an In Character (IC) channel for events that are within Gotham.

gothamrp2 - This is an In Character (IC) channel for events that are within Gotham. (Overflow)

auxrp - This is an In Character (IC) channel for events that are not specific or if both city channels are full. It is a catch all for RP. Say you want one on the moon or the Watch Tower or even in Hell. This one does not specify the city.

hi - This is an In Character (IC) channel for events that are not specific or if both city channels are full. It is a catch all for RP. Say you want one on the moon or the Watch Tower or even in Hell. This one does not specify the city. It is also considred the Social RP channel. That does not mean there will not be action here.

Okay, so those are the channels. This guide will give you step by steps on setting up those channels and how to keep SPAM from knocking out your story.

You all know how to get to Settings Tab, right?

Well within that is an area called. Chat Options - We will type in the area marked as Join/Create Custom Channel Starting with RP, and then all of the above channels. You will need to add each one separately.

--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

So, if you did this right, you will find you have a separate channel for rp, metrorp, metrorp2, gothamrp, gothamrp2, auxrp, and hi.

Now that sounds confusing and think about how much SPAM you will have now, right? So lets clean it up some.

Adding a Tab. Tabs will allow you to separate channels by function. Your starting TABS are Default, Combat, Loot, and League. Those are great for a basic gamer. But a Role Player will quickly find that the story they are writing or watching, is lost in the SPAM of /say, /tell, and /league. So it is better to keep a separate tab for each channel.

So that you will have tabs that are labeled.

Role Play - rp, metrorp, metrorp2, gothamrp, gothamrp2, auxrp, and hi

(Yes I noticed I keep all the channels inside Role Play. THe reason is so that I can stay on this tab and see when an update hits any of the IC channels. I do this so that I never a new RP start. I also can watch more than one RP at a time. Yes, I love to watch other RPs as much as be in my own.)

Metro RP - metrorp
Metro RP2 - metrorp2
Gotham RP - gothamrp
Gotham RP2 - gothamrp2
Aux - auxrp
Hi - hi

You will add each of them by clicking on the area called Add New Tab

--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

So that is great. You now have all the TABS anc channels, right? Well now it looks a little confusing I am sure, so lets see how we clean it up more. The way to do that is to EDIT the TAB.

--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

If the channel is hi-lighted green, you will see that channel inside that tab. You can turn off channels you don't want here. Say you are sick of group or tells in the Role Play tab. Well you can turn them off in the EDIT.

HINT: This is also where you can change colours of your channels.

So that is how you can RP in the DCU. Oh wait, there is more. Don't worry, it is simple but I ahve noticed that a lot of people get frustrated with it, so here goes.

To get a list of channels, type:

/chatlist - When you do this you will get a list of all your channels with numbers. It will look like this.

Custom Chat Channels
1. rp
2. auxrp
3. metrorp2
4. metrorp
5. ....

Well you get the idea. Now to chat in those channels just type:

/1 < YOUR TEXT GOES HERE > - That would show up on the rp channel.

Another little trick that will help is before you finish typing. Hit the HOME key on your keyboard and your cursor will go the begining of that Awesome RP post that took you 20 mins to write, and you can see what channel it is about to go to, before you hit ENTER and post it in the wrong channel.

Now lets say you did mess up and posted that personal note to /shout. Well, so sorry, there is no way to fix the mistake. But you can make sure that if it was a text you wanted to post again, then follow this guide.

CTRL + A - Sellect all text.
CTRL + C - Copy all selected text.
CTRL + V - Paste text.

Now this only works in game, but works for anything in game. Even your email and that special colour code you want from your colour tab in a pallete.

HINT: You can only do these steps before you hit ENTER. Once you press ENTER, there is no way to select what you typed.

Well that is it. These are simple step by step guidelines to Role Playing in the DCU. I hope to see you there soon.

As always, if you need more help or if I confused you, please ask me here, in a PM, or in game.

- Kara emoticon

One thing I do to help avoid mistells with my channels is I put the channel number from /chatlist in the tab name, so like my metrorp is named Metro(7) so I know its /7 to speak in it *shrugs*
