A Boy Who Would be a Hero (All welcome to join)

It was a beautiful day in Metropolis as the Captain zipped through the streets. He enjoyed showing off his great speed for people and make them all awe at him. It made him feel special, powerful and heroic. As he passed by in the blink of an eye, Captain Aluminum caught a glimpse of trouble. A young woman was about to get mugged by some very seedy looking gang bangers. The Captain rushed down the alley and snatched the woman up carrying her to a safe block. With a quick you’re welcome, he was back at the alley facing off against the group of thugs.

“You all are about to be foiled!” The Captain explained to them. The group of thugs all blinked several times before starting to fall over one another laughing hysterically. Though he might be a Meta, inside he was still a thirteen-year-old boy. As the group laughed they started with the disparaging remarks as well. “Run home to your momma boy!” “It’s past your bedtime.” “Awww poor little boy lost?” “Look it’s the tinman!” the remarks were abundant. Still Timothy had to keep his head on his shoulders. A good hero never lost his cool. At least that is what Stan Breeze’s How to become a Superhero book told him.

Either way Timothy was done listening to this rant. He tossed his shield and it bounced off one wall then to another then another. Each of the thugs watched with drooping expressions as the shield flew. Finally, the shield returned to the Captain. “Now unless you want to meet the business end of this shield I suggest you give up now.” Timothy suggested to the goons.

A rather large looking guy walked forward from the back of the group, pushing the other thugs aside to make a path for himself. He looked the Captain up and down for a moment. “Fine boy. Let’s see wahtcha got!” the man said before pulling a large battle rifle from his back. He aimed quickly and pulled the trigger. Bullets flew toward Timothy as shell casings hit the ground one after another.

The boy ducked behind a dumpster and held his shield up in front of his body to provide added protection. Though the bullets did bounce off of the shield, Timothy felt every impact. The others all started to pull guns and fire at the would be hero. “At least I saved the woman first.” Timothy thought. Finally, he called out to the thugs. “This is not very nice!” His call was answered with an explosive landing at his feet. As fast as he could Tim tried to zip away from the explosion but is still caught in the blast and sent sprawling against the wall behind him. He hit the floor with a thud. The boy was dazed and could be taking his last few breaths. “At least I die a hero.” He thought as his vision started to fade to black.

Vixen was in Metropolis on a business venture, but had taken to going on a midday “patrol”, when she heard the gunfire. Her totem glowed as she tapped it, calling on the feats of a Cheetah and a rhino and took off in an almost blur towards the sounds.

The dazed and confused boy would see in his blurred vision a woman in a brownish, yellow, skin tight outfit. She was black, had short, black hair and stood in front of him. She was in immaculate shape. She was a super model after all.

He’d hear her growl and may even have heard her speak to the crooks. “Give up, the science police are on the way. Or you can take your chances with me, but I gotta warn you. I’m definitely not in the mood to play nice. And you may lose a limb, or three.” She said, her claws showing.

The big thug chuckled loudly at the warning given by the woman. “You got a set of balls lady, I’ll give ya that.” He said continuing to chuckle. He turned his back to the woman and walked past his boys. As he did he muttered to them. “Kill the !@#$.” With the command the boys all cocked their guns and pointed at the woman ready to fire.

Meanwhile, Captain Aluminum began to stir from his daze. He looked up and saw the very athletic woman ready to take on the bunch of thugs all alone. He was impressed by her beauty but more so he was impressed with her courage. Timothy could tell, she was a true hero. His eyes had only just cleared so he decided to wait a moment before getting up and into what was going to be a fight.

Underestimation.

Or maybe they just didn’t know who she was? Either way it would prove to be this particular group of men’s un-doing. As the “leader” walked away and ordered his minions to end her. She whispered to the boy.

“Stay hidden.” And like lightning she was off. Still having the feats of the Cheetah she moved at incredible speeds which would look almost like a blur to most human eyes as she closed the distance between her and one attacker, aiming to slam her shoulder into him with the full force and power of the Rhino, if it connected the man would go flying backwards several dozen feet. Any bullets fired would bounce off her “hide”, which looked like normal skin, but if the boy looked at her shadow, it alternated slightly, between a Rhino and a cheetah.

As this happened she turned to grab another gun and bend it, using it to smack a thug in the face while reaching to grab another and fling her into another thug. She then tapped her totem, dropping the speed of the cheetah and gaining the feats of the lion. Her canines lengthened slightly as she’d try to slash another gun in half with her “claws”. All this happened in the span of two to three seconds. If her attacks were successful the “gang” would have been beaten and smashed, left with many bruises, all save for their “boss.”

“You were saying? You fucked up…” She said, licking her lips. “You thought you were top of the food chain, but you’re wrong… It’s me..” She said as she now exuded that lion’s predatory gaze and “aura”. Lesser men and people would feel the same kind of overwhelming fear that being in the presence of a lion would cause, as rats and cats scurried away.

The Captain now had backup. Though he was told to stay down, the hero inside would not let him just stand idle. He stood and fixed his shield to his arm and took a deep breath. Meanwhile the leader of the thugs turned to the woman and chuckled. “Good, you do have some fight in you.” The man said to her in a deep voice. The man was a Metahuman and had powers of his own. His form seemed to shimmy in a blur moment until it revealed his true form. The man now stood about eight feet tall and was covered from head to toe in thick armored scales. His facial features took on a very reptilian look now and his eyes had changed to yellow with black slits outlined in red.

The man opened his mouth and large fangs dropped down from the roof of his mouth. A forked tongue flickered in and out of his mouth and he hissed loudly just before a large stream of an acidic liquid shot forth at the woman. Any normal materials the liquid touched dissolved into goo rather quickly with a sizzling sound. The Captain watched in awe as the man transformed and at the last second he was standing in front of his savior, blocking the acid stream with his shield. The Captain was capable of moving the same as the speedsters and small bolts of lightning arced around his feet. The acid splashed off the shield and though the sound of sizzling was heard the shield was no worse for wear. It had stopped the acid attack successfully.

Acid.

It was annoying, and deadly. She dodged to the left right as it splashed against captain Aluminum's shield and some got on her arm. “Ah!” she brushed her arm, the acid already eating through it. She tapped her totem quickly and called on the feats of the lizard, specially the Salamander which caused the flesh to regenerate as the acid ate through it.

“So you're a giant lizard huh?” she said and tapped her totem again, gaining the feat of the donkey. With one kick of her legs a trash can flew at the large man followed by her moving to jump over him and try to wrap her arms and legs around the man, calling on the feat of the boa constrictor.

If she connected, the large man would feel a squeeze unlike any her ever felt, even his lizard man bones would have a hard time standing up to the feat of the constrictive force of the boa constrictor.

Captain Aluminum watched in awe as the lizard was constricted. The man himself struggled. He tried twisting, he tried flexing and nothing. He was trapped and running out of oxygen quickly. His bones were stressed to the breaking point and there was only one option left to him. Quickly he tried to sink his fangs deep into his enemy to deliver a dose of strong neurotoxin to her. The toxin was not lethal but rather it would disable the body’s motor functions, leaving the prey unable to move and helpless.

The Captain raced up the side of the building behind the two locked together. Upon reaching a decent height he jumped off the building putting his shield beneath him. He was aimed for the lizard man’s head and planned to land directly on it. He figured this would at least stun the man making his ally’s job easier. It was a chance but the Captain was willing to take it. Though he was still only a boy, he wanted to be a hero and prove himself.

“AHH!” she said as the creature bit into her forearm.

She would let him go and stumble backwards now slightly dazed. She tapped her totem and the image of a Possum appeared overlapping her body. Virginia possums have significant immunities to poisons and venoms of all kinds of creatures.

But for now she was slightly dazed, as it’d take the feats time to take effect. At least several seconds, several vulnerable seconds where she could very well end up hurt. That is until she saw the young boy in the makeshift suit step in with his shield, trying to knock the creature out. She had hoped that she’d done enough damage that the body to get the job done, or at least buy her a few more seconds to try to heal from the toxin which was making her limbs numb.

“Weeeeeeeeeee!” the Captain cried out as he fell on the top of the lizard man. His shield impacted directly on his head. That was the good news. The bad news is that after the impact, Captain Aluminum was sent sprawling into a trash bin. The lizard man was seeing stars and was wobbling on his feet. It was obvious that he was stunned and dizzy from the crash on his head. His body pressed against the brick wall behind him and it took both hands to steady his body to prevent a meeting with the pavement beneath his feet.

After a moment the Captain started to dig his way free of the trash and the bin. As he popped up and looked around he had to brush an old banana peel from his head. “Gross!” he announced. Though he had not seriously injured the lizard man, he did buy Vixen time to get her powers to purge the poison from her veins. The Captain waited for Vixen to make her next move. At that point he would hurl his shield at the lizard man to distract him from Vixen’s next attack.
