Event Zero - Metropolis (Open to All, Still Room for More!)

North S.T.A.R. Labs
Ontario, Canada
====================

"We've got a lock on the signal, Commander."

The Officer of the Watch stopped his conversation abruptly and walked with a purpose to the technician on the Watch floor. He studied a scrolling readout on one screen and then checked the map on another.

"Signal strength?" He asked.

"Eighty percent to insertion. We can confirm the event horizon as forming in... North American continent, United States region... Metropolis. It appears to be forming in the Tomorrow District," the technician reported.

"Already at Eighty Percent strength? That doesn't give us much time."

"Niagara Distortion delayed its detection, sir. Increased lunar activity--"

"I got it. Where is the Aegis now?"

"Niagara Region, sir. You wanted him to stay on hand in case something became of the storm."

The Commander nodded, recalling the instructions he gave just then. "All right. Call him up. I want him on the spot as soon as he can muster."

The technician nodded in acknowledgement and picked up the receiver on the VoIP, thumbing a button and waiting for the voice on the other end.

"Girard."

"Jayden? It's Marc on the Watch Floor. We have a Zero Point insertion in progress. 80%"

"Eh? Eighty Percent already? Jesus Murphy, I don't even know where my joggers are!"

"Need you in Metropolis now, Royal. Tomorrow District."

"I'm on my way."

=================
Tomorrow District, Metropolis

Up until now the displacement of light and sound had gone largely undetected unless ultra sensitive equipment or senses were set precisely on this specific area. But in these unfolding moments, that was changing. A swirl of qunatum energy about the size of a small compact car appeared at the corner of one of Tomorrow District's tallest skyscrapers. It seemed to inhale sound like a vacuum and light wavered and distorted around the sphere of deep purple and black energy. When it appeared it was large but as moments passed, the field of energy began to set upon itself, shrinking as time went on until it was nothing more than the size of a fist -- and then it popped.

The same color light exploded as the insertion event reached 100% completion. The air around the area was cold, almost impossibly so. And when the sphere of purple and black light exploded it left behind a massive, black form. A giant, four legged beast with four ember colored eyes reared back its head and roared a terrible sound that could be heard for blocks. It paced in a small circle, like a hungry wolf and the beast, several stories tall, reached and took a bite out of the building's sixth story floor with teeth that looked like rows of swords. It roared again, the contents in its mouth spilling onto the street below it and a burning fire could be seen in its belly and throat. It took a sniff of Metropolis and turned its body to see the crowds of paniced onlookers nearby.

“Regent, do you have a location on that disturbance yet?” The girl inside the metal armored suit asked the computer. A second later a monotone voice responded. “Sector four, grid thirty-two.” Came the answer. The girl engaged the thrusters in her suit and sped to the location where the disturbance had been recorded. She zipped through the sky, dodging buildings and birds alike until finally she was within visual range. She slowed to a hover to assess before moving closer.

“Magnify visual.” She requested. The HUD zoomed in on the four legged beast that was starting to destroy Metropolis. “What the hell is that thing?” She asked not really expecting an answer, yet the computer responded anyway. “It matches no known animal or creature on record.”

She shook her head inside the suit. “That was a rhetorical question, Regent.” She said with a sigh. After taking a deep breath it was time. She sped off toward the creature. “Regent, calculate maximum effective range and target variance for micro-missile volley.” The pilot requested of her computer. “Optimal targeting distance in twelve hundred yards. A full volley is recommended.” The computer explained. “Right. Let’s do this.” Said the girl. She flew into position exactly where Regent said to fire from. The missile bays on the suit’s shoulders popped open and dozens of tiny missiles rocketed off toward the beast. It may not harm the thing but it should get its attention. Once all of the missiles were launched the missile bays themselves popped off the suit and fell to the ground. They were a single use weapon if fired as a full volley. Though the missiles might have been a one shot, The Steel Regent was far more than a one trick pony.

“How many times do you get to ever relax?” Evelyn asked as she watched Marie sit in her pajamas eating popcorn watching a movie. She was in her high rise apartment in Metropolis, enjoying the the latest Pirates movie when the alarm came through.

“What? Some kind of... animal? Monster? Attacking buildings... Alright i'm on it.” she stood up and tossed her bag of popcorn to Evelyn who smirked at her then sat down on the couch where Marie has just got up from.

“heh, as you were saying... No break.” she smiled, eyes glowing golden yellow as she put on her uniform and pulled it up on her body. She then grabbed her Tantu totem and tapped it, calling on the feats of the Falcon. She jumped out the window and soared high into the sky, her vision sharp as she focused on the commotion below.

She saw the armored figure fighting the... thing which was extremely large, far larger than she thought.

“Jeez... that's not small AT ALL...” She was the chosen of the RED. She commanded animals and their powers. So when the monster was preparing to attack she tried to use one of her powers, the power over the natural instinct of animals.

“HEEL!” she shouted, her eyes seemingly having a golden glint, but perhaps it was just a trick of the light. Her voice carried the power of an alpha creature, a unshakable power that either was challenged, or submitted. Humans who had dogs would notice they all would “sit”, all at once, some people even stopped in place.

The beast, if it detected the armored hero, didn't seem at all interested until the volley of missiles approached. It turned as if to ponder what was coming toward it and braced against the strike as the mini-missiles began to hit. It's turning movement caused its flailing tail to smash through the already damaged building, clearing out another floor beneath its strength and size. Flashes of light sputtered against the beast's skin and it roared, several tiny plumes of smoke appearing on its skin where the they hit. Seemingly annoyed, the beast faced Steel Regent and let out its deepest and throatiest roar, blowing windows down the whole street and knocking over cars and anything not nailed down. The thinnest parts of it hide glowed brilliantly, a raging fire churning down its gut. It began to advance toward Steel Regent when it heard, no felt, the demand to heel.

It swung its head then body around to face the new arrival, again damaging the buildings around it, and its eyes burned red at Vixen's audacity to try and command it. Though Vixen's commands had a different effect, the beast did feel her intrusiveness and met it with a bellowing belch of thick, extradimensional flame, a spiraling jet of plasma searing everything in its path and it head straight for her.

From behind the beast and Steel Regent swing another human sized annoyance, this one adorned in a thin body armor colored red and white. "Oh good! S.T.A.R. this is Royal. Looks like some of Metro's heroes have already arrived on scene," he said over the comm channel. Then to either of the heroes that could heard him, "Great! Keep it distracted! I need to get in close!" Royal Aegis landed on the ground beneath Steel Regent and rushed in as fast as his exoskeletal armor would let him as he pulled a device from his thigh holster.

Re: Event Zero - Metropolis (Open to All, Still Room for More!)

Standing on one of the buildings surrounding the creature, a man peered over the edge with something which looked like a rocket launcher on his shoulder. On the ground, in the fleeing panic of people, two more women stood firm holding what looked like giant metal boxes. They Another woman who wore a cloak and had long, brown hair which hung to the middle of her back stood in front of the beast, and as the plasma fire launched she would press a button on her belt and wrap herself fully in her cloak. Inside the heat was intense, but the cloak’s energy shield held, at least for now.

“Now.” She said calmly.

The man on the roof top fired his rocket launcher, and as it streaked towards the creature it exploded over the beast, releasing a giant, electromagnetic energy net which dropped over the creature and tried to pin it to the ground, as this happened the two women on the ground set the boxes down on the ground and they exploded outwards, launching what looked like energy whips at the beasts legs, trying to restrain it. The boxes anchored themselves to the ground with gravity anchors and tried to reel the beast in.

Meanwhile the woman in the plasma fire rolled to the side and tossed her now burning cloak off, revealing an all red leather looking body suit. She had holstered what looked like a large, futuristic hand weapon on one side, and on the other a saber. On the front of her body suit would be a large skull and crossbones.

Queen Emeraldas, Pirate queen had arrived on Earth.

But the real question was why?

Things had heated up quickly. The beast was angry with all the rockets and such heading its way. The explosions were many and when the smoke cleared, the beast was still there. It was still standing as if nothing had happened. Again the creature roared, the sound echoing from the buildings in the area. A large clawed paw hit the ground crushing a municipality bus under it. Luckily the bus had been long abandoned.

“Regent, can we shunt power into that electromagnetic net?” The girl asked quickly. It took but only a second for the computer to reply. “Affirmative. The pulse hand lasers must be set to a frequency of 2214.66 gigahertz. The effect should supply enough of a jolt to operate as a taser on the creature.” The computer explained. Steel got into position above the creature and aimed her hand blasters at the nexus point of the electromagnetic net. “Adjust hand blaster frequencies now.” The girl demanded. “Ready.” Came the answer from the computer. Suddenly two large beams of energy raced from her gauntlets to the nexus point of the net. The energy was quickly absorbed by the net and routed into the creature as a powerful taser jolt.

The all-too-brief of a sound of the rocket launcher igniting its payload and the movement of the rocket over its head, snapped the Beast out of its burning plasma attack. Regardless of his chosen targets surviving, a quarter mile of the street was melted or otherwise burning beneath the assault of its blast. It had no time to consider the cloaked woman as it looked up to the small burst of the rocket and the deployment of a net.

The Beast was unaccustomed to the net but the energy seemed little more as a nuisance. The ties about its limbs, however, greatly made it uncomfortable. The netted Beast roared and leaped forward toward one of the women with the snare boxes before the net itself could pin it to the ground. It landed mere inches from one of the women with the boxes and reared its head forward to capture her inside its teeth while at the same time pulling its other front leg up with tremendous force, testing the strength of the tie that bound it.

Whether or not the Beast was able to sink its teeth into the woman before it, a taser-jolt tore through its hide. Steel Regent's reinforcement of the electromagnetic power already a part of the net sent a shock through its body. Its muscles tightened and jaw locked but the attack was brief. It shook its head from side to side, striking the side of a building and then kicked a leg forward, sending a delivery truck into the air straight for Regent.

Meanwhile, Royal Aegis had pulled himself up from the street, embedded in the side of a parked car when the Beast made its lunge toward the women trying to capture it. He had been caught in a full run and then knocked away. Mere meters away from the Beast a second time and the twin energy blasts toward the Beast's net caused him to skid to a halt, just seconds away from being electrocuted to death apparently.

"Sheesh. Not trying to make it too easy on a guy eh?" Royal looked down at the device he held with both hands. It would appear to a layman as a bomb but it was far from being something that simple. On either side of the unit were two clear containers, one filled with a purplish fluid and the other with black. The center of the device had a simple read out, a timer that started as soon as he thumbed the main switch. Royal tossed the device overhand at the Beast and it passed through a hole in the net and attached itself to the side of its target. Then Royal pointed an open palm toward the device and fired a blast of absolute cold at it, coating it in a patch of ice which further adhered it to the Beast's skin. Luckily the Beast was far too pissed at Steel Regent to care about a tiny cold patch on the side of its hip.

Vixen frowned as the beast seemed to not only ignore her “HEEL” command, but also it got pissed! It breathed some kind of fire, or plasma, and she quickly jumped out of the way, the plasma just barely missing her by the slimmest of margins. “Holy crap!” she shouted and stood up right as the net barely missed, and the armored woman caused more of a distraction than to stop it. She slammed her foot down and tapped her tantu totem again, and grinned. What people did not know was that the totem allowed her to call on ANY animal which has ever lived, or even fictional animals.

Her shadow shifted to that of the largest dinosaur in existence, the giant plant eater the Titanosaur. The ground cracked beneath her as she took a running start at the creature which was being held and would jump, trying to slam into its body and knock it down with her “massive” body. The shadow she cast now covered the entire street.

She hoped all that mass would at least knock it down and daze it or hurt it. As she did this she tapped her totem again, calling on the Tyrannosaurus rex, and would try to swipe her hand. Although her hand did not change, the “wound” if caused, would be as large as the dinosaur could make.
