Re: ☽⌛ Beneath a Black Moon (Society of Justice Presents) ⌛ ☾

The scene inside Twin Pines Mall was one of chaos and pandemonium. Discs of light opened and closed in seemingly random locations in the air. One would blink open, two more would close, two would open, one would close. The ceiling, the second floor walkway, the center of the fountain, the side of an escalator; there was no control and when one opened, it would seem to deposit the contents displaced by another. This is what teleportation without focus, without training, looked like and it was rampant throughout the mall.

Hypnos, disheveled as he was, was the first to arrive and Lilac appeared close by; both delivered by the delayed reaction of the purplish onyx shard they carried --or let drop onto the floor in Scott's case. Pedestrians ran by him in a panic, and he would note they were less interested in gawking or watching the man cover his face and more interested in running for their lives. Just as he felt his mask secure there was a silent opening of a teleport iris directly over Scott and Lilac's heads. The halo of light around it would have been the only warning it gave before dumping its contents toward him; this one apparently having been connected to a Victoria's Secret.

A wave of shoppers saw the exit Frey Njordson was near and rushed it with such force that some slower people were being trampled. In the center of the retreating mob, a halo of light appeared without warning. Frey would be able to look inside of the portal but not see anything on the other side of it. The portal was motionless for a heartbeat and then vomited out a deluge of power tools, garden accessories, and miscellaneous hardware into the throng and toward Frey with an unearthly acceleration. Until he acted, Frey would witness the tools slicing forward with deadly force, cutting, severing and penetrating human flesh.

The Sentinel, aglow with the alien or mystical power of the Starheart, arrived in the mall's exterior. From what he could tell, he was separated from everyone else; only Lilac and Scott were closely located. Hayden Rice would appear in the middle of a restaurant kitchen, the grills hot but left unguarded as the staff had already gone... somewhere else. Sentinel would step out of the purplish haze of Dr Synodic's teleportation effect... into and down the gaping mouth of a glowing iris on the floor, leading into -well who really knew at this point-?

Lace, perfume, yoga pants, and logo-splattered shopping bags that would be reused infinitely by their purchasers poured down, drenching Scott and his gear. A small twinge of relief rose up underneath his exasperation, glad his mask was on to hide his embarrassment and his deep frown. Refusing to look at Lilac he focused on his work, pulled a bra out of his boots, and tucking his pant's hems inward he slid his feet inside.

Grabbing his armored shirt he slid it on over his belt rig, securing it in place, along with his short-cape, and then sliding his fingers down into his purple gloves. Satisfied he reached down, brushed a pair of undies off his fedora, and pulled the hat down over his head.

"We need to talk to Synodic about his timing on those teleports." He grumbled, his voice muffled by the mask's filters. Pocketing the shard, he would look around the mall, his glowing gaze spotting the golden-helmet hero just in time to see him disappear into one of the glowing irises.

"Well that can't be good." He said, trotting over towards Lilac and Sentinel, trying to keep up his peripheral scanning, ready to jump in case another portal appeared.

"Synodic was eaten by one of those portals, and whatever is causing all this must be deeper in the mall. We should split up, some of us for crowd-control and looking for Synodic, the others to go deal with whatever is causing all this."

☽⌛ Beneath a Black Moon (Society of Justice Presents) ⌛ ☾

(Heard there we was having a party. Thought I might join in.)

The chaos caused by the strange portals kept on mounting as time went on. And while many if not most of the customers made their way to the exits in as orderly fashion as a bull in a china shop, one in particular had found themselves trapped beneath the counter in one of the mall's boutiques.

"Help! Anyone hear me?" the clerk asked as he tried to slid his way out of the small alcove of things he was trapped beneath. One of the strange portals had just so happened to open up above him just as the chaos started, dropping, of all thing, and entire metal shelf on him. Luckily, the counter was sturdy enough to hold the weight, but now he was trapped there, with little avenue for escape.

"Anyone! I'm trapped! I can't-"

Suddenly, as if in answer to his pleas, the shelving unit began to stir. At first ,it was little more than an inch or two. Then, with a loud grumble, the shelf found itself tossed off of the counter and into the wall.

"Fear not citizen. Your time's yet to run out."

A cloaked, hooded man was now standing by the counter, offering the clerk a gloved hand.

"Can you walk?"

As the portal opened and the errant tools flew out towards the unsuspecting crowd, Frey flew into action. With amazing swiftness, he flew in a clockwise pattern to rescue the poor people being assaulted by the power tools. "There must be some sorcery here at work for Craftsmen tools to be working without electricity." The Vanir hero also picked up those who were being trampled as well bringing them along with the victims of the tool attacks to the parking lot. "Wizard, your presence is needed" he shouted to the lifeless shard.

Power tools, a crowds hum of banter, and voices nearby. These were all that Hayden's mental state computed as he arrived at Twin Pines. Each time jad been different, upon using Synodic's tool. But this time it was far different. This time, a residue of Chaos hung heavy upon the Grim Sentinel. Crossing through actually ached his muscles, and fogged his mind.

His eyes squinting beneath his green mask. Whisps of his cape flapping with the darkened green aura's hum. Sentinel levitated within the kitchen space turned coridoor of disarray. All around were a surreal tapestry of mirrored portal entries. Like mouths upon an eldritch monstrosity only Howard P. Lovecraft could write! Gobbling up reality about him.

Lilacs voice rang uncertain to him. Though Trudy's eyes gently assured him, that her latent power manifested another persona for the group to meet. Most likely ironically appropriate to the circumstance at hand.

Despair, agony and fear raised his awareness however. With Hypnos now near Trudy(Lilac) Sentinel had just noticed below him a mouth to the unknown void awaited his descent. (More than likely with hopes of his unaware arrival) Rice hovered in place, gathering his concentration back from the air of unreason and awkward confusion that stole his attention.
"[sign in to see URL] look out!" Hayden yelped, as lingerie, clothing effects and other merchandise fell from a portal hanging over the pair. Unbeknowst them as much. Hayden glided away from his own voidal pitfall. Only to notice Frey at work, versus tools of peril lashing and dashing at fleeing patrons across the thoroughfare.

Hayden found the abandobed kitchen to be dangerous. Imediately springing to task shut down the electricity to the shop. As to deter the disaster offered with errent powered facility effects. With greenish swirls his aura stretched out, reaching and forming into mock hands three or four sizes larger than his own. Manifesting from the mirky light, at least a dozen seperate appendages went to unplug, unhook, and turn off the kitchens utilities and devices that could burn down or hurt anyone or thing. Seconds later, he turned out to swerve the crowd away from and around Frey. Whom nearly found himself trampled, had now been shielded withba right green angle that could funnel the herded patrons to the exit safely and without running over Frey.

Then, Hooded and disguised away from the groups dealings. A figure that was somewhat familiar to Hayden, made off of aiding A clerks rescue.
"You! Do you need help retrieving him? Are YOU hurt as well? " Sentinel asked him.

Side steeping the tumbling unmentionables as they cascaded down, Lilac watched as Syndicate disappeared into a portal. He looked different than what Trudy's described.

"I think we are on our own for this one. " She said and shook her head with a sigh. "He looks... not quite right today."

She turned to Hypnosis with a smile. "Looks like it's you and me kid. Care to find the source of these problems with me?" She asked. With Hayden and Frey busy helping people, that left the detective work to the other two.

Assembled, the Society had gotten straight to the task at hand... which for some meant getting dressed for the occasion. Hypnos finished the task of preparing to wrestle with the chaos unfolding inside the mall. Just as he formulated a plan for the others to follow, a portal opened horizontally nearby, gore and the lower torso of a slain shopper raining down onto the floor as a grim reminder that things here were dire.

The heroes would find that the gems would not only be good for bringing them into the fold but allowed them to communicate as well; they carried their spoken words even now, save for the mysterious new arrival in the cloak and hood. Though they may been at separate ends of the shopping mall, they could hear each other clearly.

Frey Njordson was still a distance from the others, but successfully saw to the throng of civilians trying to make their exit. Those that were wounded were only barely so, scrapes and minute puncture wounds, thanks to him; the power tools were in fact powered without electricity, an oddity, but Frey was able to prevent the scene from turning into some Chainsaw Massacre. He would no soon find that the portal to the warehouse section was closed that another opened behind him, and tossed a showroom four-door sedan speeding straight for him.

The emerald Sentinel had avoided the pitfall of a nearby portal and then taken measure of the entire scene as it played out but arrived in time to see that the newcomer in cloak and hood might need assistance. The clerk nodded in reply to the hooded man's question; he could indeed walk but there was suddenly another portal that just opened above him. It pulled as if it had its own forceful gravity, pulling him up towards it. His legs lifted up toward the portal while he frantically clawed to his hooded savior, his eyes wide with fear.

All the while, astral projections of Doctor Synodic were split into several corners of the mall, he too taking measure of the chaos but from afar. While some of the Sentinels thought they had seen him, he wasn't actually there yet; just -astral eyes and ears that scouted ahead before his arrival- Then all at once, the ghost-like images of Synodic vanished.

The air went dry and sound wooshed nearby them all. The remaining lights of the mall flickered and then died and now there was only an unnatural purplish colored dusk inside the structure that allowed them to barely see. The portals were open and closing still, these would appear as bright discs of sunlight but all other light in the mall were extinguished aside from the purple hue... and perhaps the emerald glow of Sentinel or the godly glow of Frey Njordson?

A sliver of purple and azure split the dusk just behind the panicked man who was behind the uncontrollable portal phenomenon. "Behold. Here is your perpetrator," boomed the voice of Dr. Synodic finally, his body aglow in a violet aura and his hand outstretched toward the balding, beer-bellied summoner of warp portals who seemed very much afraid and still unsure how he was doing all of this.

"Kid?" Hypnos replied to Lilac. "Hah, I wish." When the lights went out he looked up at the ceiling, the eyes on his mask now standing out in their purple glow, a few shades too bright for the violet and dying lavender hues that everything had begun to assume.

When the backsplash of light from Synodic revealed the perpetrator, Hypnos nodded once, and began jogging across the promenade, once a good twenty feet out he would pull out his right pistol, flick a switch, aim, and spray a long line of purple liquid out of it at the man. On contact the liquid would begin vaporizing into a clinging cloud of the mystery man's signature sleeping gas.

"Sleep now, for none escape the dark dreams of Hypnos!"

Just as the cloaked man's hand grabbed the clerk's the portal began to drag them both into it.

"Ah! Help! I don't wanna dieeee," the clerk shouted, clawing desperately to get a better grip.

"Calm yourself! Just hold on!" the cloaked man replied. Leaning back, he clawed his free arm into the concrete floor of the shop, anchoring the both of them to it. Still, it was hardly a solution.

"That's not going to help! I'll be torn apart at this point!" the clerk cried out.

"Not if I can help it. You have my word. And the Clock Hand's word is good as time itself," replied the hooded man. He slowly began to pull the man closer, away from the portal. "Grab on to my chest. It's going to be a rough ride."

The clerk strapped himself to the man as instructed, clinging on for dear life. "Now what?"

"Now, I can use both my hands," the Clock Hand explained. He stuck both his hands into the concrete now. He grunted as he used both his feet and his hands, ripping apart the piece of floor the both of them were standing on. As the patch of concrete began to be sucked into the strange portal, the hooded hero used it as a springboard, launching himself off of it as it shattered into dust. As the two shot towards the wall, Clock Hand turned his back to it, smashing through like a cannonball and landing on the smooth, wooden floor next door.

"[sign in to see URL] think that did it. Are you alright, citizen?" he asked, now removed from the portal's gravity.

"Y-yeah. Bit sore. Are YOU alright? You just crashed through a wall!"

"Barely a flesh wound, I assure you," Clock Hand replied as he stood himself up, tossing dust off of his cloak. It was at that moment that the lights inside the mall died out. Stepping outside the shop, Clock Hand spotted a strange purple glow somewhere further away.

"The exit's here," he told the clerk, pointing him to an emergency exit door. "Go on. There's more to be done here." He pulled out a pocket-watch from his suit and checked it. "And hardly enough time to do them, too."

Leaping off of the railing and landing on the concrete below, Clock Hand made his way for the strange light.

Thankfully only gravity was the force behind the car flying at Frey. He caught the errant automobile and as gently as possible set in on the ground out of the way of the citizens he just saved. He turned backed to them and smiled. "Leave this place in an orderly fashion. And be careful out on the roadways." Clearly whatever was creating the portals was inside the mall itself.

Once they were safely away from the mall entrance, Frey took to the skies to fly into the mall through the now missing clear rooftop of the food court. "What manner of sorcery is this?" he asked the figure of Dr Synodic.
