Death Returns (*Open RP*)

For months the corpse had laid dormant deep within the earth. He had been banished by the Dark Rider. Though the Rider was able to shunt Darklight from continuing his killing rampage, she was unable to destroy him. Though it was a defeat it was nothing compared to Ms. Marvel slipping through his grasp due to the interference of Cometgirl. The dead man had done several things to call her out, yet for some reason the would be hero avoided him. No matter how many he killed, no matter what wanton destruction he caused, Cometgirl was a no show. This is what he spent the months seething about.

Since his defeat at the hands of the combined forces of the JLA and the Green Lantern Corps, Agamemno had been stuck, trapped by them. When his prison was destroyed it allowed his essence to escape to the stars to once again cause havoc. This time he would take a much more direct approach. He could sense the undead creature, known as Darklight Refraction, and he knew that would be his perfect weapon.

Agamemno’s essence made its way through the cosmos until it reached its destination, Earth. Seemingly unnoticed the entity swept across the oceans and the continents only to settle in Seattle. It was here that he decided to raise his weapon from the ground and set him lose on the denizens of the Rain City. It took only a moment to find the spot where Agamemno would rip the dead thing from the earth.

“Rise from your grave…” the entity spoke as if its voice was on the wind. It was then the ground began to shake and rumble violently. To those who lived in Seattle, it would seem as though the city was being hit by an earthquake. There were some that knew this was no natural earthquake and that something was going on.

The ground rumbled and shook as the entire city ran into a panic. Much of the population remembered the quake of 2001 and feared a worse repeat. Some buildings began to shake apart leaving debris crumbling to the street. People screamed and objects fell. Rubble filled the streets as the people tried to avoid being hit by the flying debris. Some made it while others didn’t.

It would later be reported that the quake registered at 6.4 and estimated damages would be roughly 35 million. Hundreds of injuries were reported as were several deaths.

The chaos and fear was like music to Agamemno’s ears as the ground shook. Just before the quake would subside the ground beneath the entity would burst open and shrouded in a sickly green haze of energy came Darklight Refraction. As his feet touched down, the earth stopped quaking and the sickly green glow dissipated. He stared up at the entity through his mask and quickly realized it was he who had returned him from his dirt slumber.

Something had changed in Darklight. He felt stronger, there was a power flowing through him now that was not there before. His physical strength had been drastically increased and his once skull head was now covered in zotting flesh as was the rest of his form. Darklight could feel the power surging through him, giving the ability to face his enemies down and destroy them.

Almost as if by instinct, Darklight knew his orders from Agamemno and no words needed be spoken. Darklight nodded simply and watched as the entity vanished from sight. Darklight tilted his head from one side then the other, his spine making terrible cracking noises as it reset into place. He was now ready to get his revenge and this time nothing would stop him. With a flick of his outstretched hand, his telltale machete grew in swirling light until it solidified into his calling card weapon.

As the sun set on Seattle that evening and the crowds of people began the tedious task of cleaning up the rubble from the quake, a new threat wondered the streets looking for trouble. Darklight was dead on the inside as much as he was on the outside. He had no emotions only a burning drive to kill and to exact his revenge on Cometgirl. Today, however, would not be that day.

After the quake, Granite Quarry was busy rescuing people, helping with cleanup and justifying that he was not the cause of the quake. His attention was there and he did not see the machete wielding maniac enter the alleyway behind him. He had not seen the two people who had only just dug their way free of some rubble. They were grateful to be alive and though the quake had not killed them, they were not long for this world.

The scream of terror bellowed out from the dark alley and Granite’s head snapped around to see what was going on. “What da?” He grumbled as he hurriedly made his way to the mouth of the alley. What he saw made him sick to his stomach. The hardlight machete was being pulled from the head of one of the victims. It dripped blood and gore from the man and the small falling drops painted a clear picture on the alley floor.

The woman was cowering and screaming as Darklight stood over her. He raised the machete above his head, ready to bring it down into her skull as well. With a quick leap, Granite was down the alley and tackling Darklight sending them both through the already dilapidated structure. The three story building collapsed upon them and it seemed as though only the woman had made her way to safety with only a bellowing cloud of dust chasing her.

Several people had gathered to see what was going on. Some took the injured woman away while others stood by waiting for something to happen. After a few minutes Granite emerged from the rocks and remains of the demolished building. The people cheered and clapped for him as he dusted himself off. As he did it made sounds of stones grinding together.
“Pleese, pleese. No auto-mo-graphs!” Granite chuckled as he started to leave the alley but something caught his attention. A single broken piece of brick suddenly fell from the pile. It bounced as it fell hitting more of the rubble on the way down. Upon hitting the ground, the chunk of brick rolled until it reached Granite’s foot. The stone golem looked down at the piece of brick before stepping on it and crushing it to dust.

That is when the pile burst open freeing Darklight as if he had jumped out of a birthday cake. In the wake of his escape a barrage of hardlight daggers sped toward Granite along with the debris from the rubble. Behind him the crowd dispersed in fear. They ran off screaming in different directions. The daggers hit Granite and pushed him back a few feet. He blocked as much as he could with his large forearms. Granite was actually shocked that the daggers actually hurt when they hit. There was not much that could penetrate his thick stone hide. Darklight did not expect this to actually harm the large stone golem but he enjoyed the outcome nonetheless. Granite just grumbled.

“I dunno what yer problem is pal, but I got da cure all for ya!” Granite said before charging again and sending a powerful punch straight for Darklight. Granite had learned that he needed to hold himself back in most cases. He did not want to turn anyone into paste. To his surprise his large fist was caught by one of Darklight’s hands stopping the forward motion instantly. Granite blinked a few times looking from his fist to Darklight and back again. That was just before a powerful strike, from Darklight’s other hand, impacted Granite in the torso. With an “Ooooooof!” The heavy stone golem was sent crashing into the building across the street. He smashed through a car, a bus stop and a newspaper stand before crashing through the brick wall of the building and skidding to a halt across the floor.

Outside, Darklight looked down at his fist. He was impressed by the new found power given to him by Agamemno. He flicked his hand out and again appeared the hardlight machete. He threw the object toward the building Granite was in just as the large rock man stood up. The spinning weapon cut through enough of the remaining supports to topple the five story building down upon Granite. Darklight did not want to waste any more time with this thing. He turned and walked into the shadows of the alley as the building collapsed down on Granite seemingly crushing the rock man.

Darklight made his way through the damaged city. He would pick off the occasional passerby or group of municipality helpers trying to assist the wounded or rescue those who were still trapped in the rubble. He was not sure why Agamemno brought him to Seattle but he was sure that the reason would reveal itself soon enough. In the meantime, it was time to reduce the surplus population in Seattle. That would include any would be hero who crossed his path.

NESENTRA

Seattle, Washington.

In one of the more elaborate homes on the water’s edge, a family hung from rope, bleeding, crying and scared as the father nervously began to open a safe. The older man glanced back every so often to the woman with the patch on her left eye who smiled at him. She was in a smart looking business suit and had pale skin and long, black flowing hair. She sighed and shook her head, taking a step forward.

“WAIT! WAIT ALRIGHT!” he shouted and opened the safe.

Inside was a very old, leatherbound book which looked like the leather was made of actual stretched skin. “Here it is…” He would reach the woman the book and she’d smile, flipping through the ancient pages of the tome. She was gentle with them as they looked quite ancient.

“Ah yes, the Book of Four.. You know this tome was written originally in 1529 by a Viking shaman? She was very, VERY powerful, and was researching ancient relics. This book here holds a key to something which belongs to me.” She said to him.

“Alright just.. let my family go alright!” the man pleaded.

“Oh right… I do plan to let them go.” She raised her hand, and a soft, green hue overtook them. The family screamed as their bodies were twisted and broken. They made horrible sounds as slowly they were reformed into Hunters… They dropped down from the ceiling now on all fours, their bodies looked like rotting, black flesh, their limbs were elongated but rippled with muscles as their heads grew to look more like Alien xenomorphs.

“NO!!! YOU PROMISED!” he screamed, charging her.

With a flick of her hand, the necromancer flung the man into the wall. “Be silent! If you’d not tried to cheat me originally, this would not happen…!” She said to him, walking towards him. “Do you know what I am, child? I existed before your silly civilization was even a speck on this once great land… My power made GODS tremble, and you tried to cheat me and thought I’d just let you go?” He began to scream as his “Family” had begun to devour him alive.

She walked out the home as the family of four continued to slaughter the man alive, leaving behind nothing but a blood splat. A woman opened her door to her limo for her and she got in. “My Hunters. Find me a sacrifice. Someone strong” she said as the limo drove off, heading towards Seattle Proper now.

The city of Seattle would hear a howl in the air as the four xenomorph like creatures would blend into the shadows and take off, scattering like bugs along building rooftops sniffing out someone powerful… The under monster Darklight caught their attention… the four changed direction, heading towards him to stalk him now….

He may hear the scattering of feet across the pavement in the shadows... the low growls of...something from the darkness, the terrifying, green reflective eyes of the predators as they got closer and closer to him.

Black Rider

Charlie and her partner, Frank were on a stakeout of a drug dealer in downtown Metropolis. The duo usually hunted down metahuman threats for the police department but tonight that task brought them to work with NARCO as well. She sighed and ate a chicken tender as the two waited.

“So how does this “Rider” thing work again Charlie?” He asked her.

“Basically… justice which is not saited calls out and the Rider answers. It could be a murderer getting off in trial, a hero who kills a father or mother, stuff like that… The Rider doesn’t always kill either.. She judges if justice should be dealt out or not, and then she does her thing.”

“And she’s from hell?” he asked, genuinely curious.

“I’m not sure… I feel something divine in her, but also something extremely dark, almost evil, but turned to do good. It’s weird, I can see some things in its mind but not everything. I do know it isn’t nor was it EVER human, or even mortal.” She said.

“And you just get a…feeling?”

She winced and then held her head, rocking back and forth… “No, more like a splitting migrane, like my mind is on fire! Like now… I .. I got to go..”

She would get out the car, her body smoking as she stumbled down the streets holding her head. Her partner would follow her, only to see her knock a man off his motorcycle and sit on it, her body bursting into flames as the bike changed…flames shot out from all directions of the bike as her skull was replaced with a flaming skull, her hands, skeleton looking hands on fire. Her attire changed to motorcycle leathers.

“AHAHAHAHA!” She screeched then tore off down the street at an amazing speed. She was coming from San Francisco, and was heading directly for Seattle.

Re: Death Returns (*Open RP*)

Darklight had just finished ripping the head off some no name hero when he heard the scratching and skittering behind him. His eyes panned the shadows from behind his mask only to see a pale green glowing pair of eyes staring back at him. He only saw one pair of eyes as it was a combat tactic to distract and flank. The Xenomorph like creatures seemed to use similar tactics as it was believed that Velociraptors used millions of years ago to hunt. One would attract attention while the others would flank the target. Though the hunter had seemingly become the prey, in his mind this was just another lamb for the slaughter and he was always up for more slaughter.

The hero he had just dispatched had managed to get a few decent hits in on the walking corpse. All it did was fuel his hardlight powers. Darklight’s power over hardlight was fueled by incoming damage, he wore no ring. In fact, he himself was the ring. Not all damage but most would provide the juice for him to use his hardlight powers. The Dark Rider had found this out during their last encounter. Using an ingenious idea, she was able to stop him from continuing his rampage, at least temporarily.

Now there was something or someone new to kill. Darklight threw a hand out toward the glowing eyes in the shadows and instantly a hardlight chain appeared sprawling toward the target. The end was tipped with a very nasty looking barbed spike. Should the weapon find its target, he would use the chain to pull the enemy from the shadows toward him. This was not dissimilar from the Scorpion chain used by the character of the same name in the Mortal Kombat series. The only real difference was this weapon was made of hardlight.

NESENTRA

The Hunter which was the bait worked. As the hardlight chain slammed into the extra tough hide and was pulled back towards the undead, imbued creature, the other three would pounce. One from each side, and one from behind. They moved with all the swiftness and ferocity of panthers pouncing on its perceived prey.

Their stingers were made to incapacitate living flesh for transport while slowly rotting said flesh, but keeping said being alive just enough that a proper sacrifice could be carried out. As the other three all struggled trying to subdue Darklight, the one he’d stabbed would slowly die, curling up into a husk of its former self.

Nesentra grnned then looked towards the direction Darklight was at. “All my pets have caught the scent of strong prey..” She said. Her eye behind the patch glowed softly, and now a low, dense fog would roll over the city.

People would begin to hear moans and groans, shambling feet… some may even see what looked like drunk humans as others would see strange animals roaming the streets.. The living dead had been risen and was now on a path, moving through darkened alleys and shadows, taking lives who were dumb enough to get too close or wander into a darkened alleyway.

Darklight himself would notice that a small gaggle of slow moving undead were also approaching him, their moans and groans would give them away as their golden and green eyes glowed in the darkness.

The Black Rider

“Evil grows in Seattle…” Standing inside of a biker bar on about an hour away from Seattle, The Dark Rider slowly would walk away from the bar. There were bodies strewn everywhere, most of them were badly burned and still screaming, even though the flame was gone.

But there were a select few which looked like dried up, soulless husks. There was a woman cowering near the jukebox who had kept quiet for this long, but as the Rider walked by her she gasped. The Dark Rider stopped in her tracks, turning to look back and down. Her head twisted to the side as the woman began to cry.

“Please.. please don’t kill me! I just was here with my date!” She pleaded.

“Pick…better…women…” the rider said and smashed the jukebox, which made the woman faint. She then would walk out the bar and get back on her motorcycle. The flames of hell engulfed it and she cackled then tore down the two lane road, leaving a trail of fire behind her as she did.

“Monster of darkness… I am coming for you….”

Next Stop, Seattle.

Naokii Tomkins

The balance is lost.

Naokii walked in the Shadowlands, the arbiter, the one who delt justice and frowned. She’d been here ever since she lost control not to long ago, and was trying to figure out just what happened.

“Lifeless corpses walk the earth once more… The souls of these bodies cry out for justice.” She said.

She would step out of the Shadow lands and right into downtown Seattle. Her mask covered her eyes as she was “Blind”, but could see energy and chi flow. She carried her staff in her hand as she walked the streets.

“No! My wife! Leave my wife alone!” A man screamed as suddenly the screams of a woman also filled her ears. She dashed off towards the alleyway and saw it.. the green corruption in the rotting flesh, the fading lifeforce of the woman…

But to the east.. .something powerful was moving , and another power, heading towards it… It was two powers almost distracting and blinding to her. But no, the task at hand. She threw her staff and it punctured one of the creatures. It would scream of the purifying light of the arbiter of the dead burned through its undead flesh, eventually leaving nothing.

The second growled, shambling towards her, with one thrust of her hand, the telekinetic blast slammed into it, pinning it to the ground. She bent down and placed her hand in front of its head. Whispering to it. “Be cleansed…” the psychic said, and the creature screamed before it too gave into t her light.

“Help my wife.. please!” the man begged.

The woman was barely breathing, her legs severed, large amounts of blood pouring from her neck. Naokii sighed.. “I cannot help her physical form.. but I can ensure her soul passes into the shadowlands without anger weighing it down.

There was a soft yellow glow which surrounded the woman, and she smiled, then stopped breathing.

She then looked upwards and shot up into the air, propelled by her telekinetic powers, zipping towards Darklight’s location.

Re: Death Returns (*Open RP*)

The hardlight chain dissipated as the first of the four creatures hit the ground at Darklight’s feet. Just as he was about to revel in his most recent kill, he felt powerful jaws and sharp claws begin tearing into his dead flesh. Anyone who was alive would be screaming in torment. He could tell that these creatures could rend steel with their claws so flesh and bone was nothing for them. Darklight had never encountered such beasts, however, he already knew that they could die.

He was forced down into a kneeling position as the three beasts tore at him with teeth and claws. His body was starting to look significantly damaged, even for a dead man. He did nothing as the beasts continued their assault. Each bite, each claw, each damaging attack built his power up further and further until he decided it was his turn.

Darklight threw back his arms. As he did hundreds of large hardlight spikes projected from his body in every direction. The spikes shot off everywhere. Some hit the beasts on top of him, while others struck the brick walls of the nearby buildings causing gaping holes to appear in the structure. Some shot off high into the sky and others down the alley and out into the street. Cars, buildings and passers bye would also feel the brunt of his attack. One family in the nearby building was having supper when the hardlight spikes tore through their home. They would never get to finish their meal.

Darklight stood up slowly. Once again the machete appeared in his hand. He looked around to assess the situation and prepare for his next attack if need be. It was then he saw the shambling horde moving toward him. Some of them already had holes in them from the hardlight spike attack but being undead, they had not taken enough damage to fall. Seeing the zombies gave Darklight pause for the briefest of moments. He was well aware that only a Necromancer could call forth such creatures.

Darklight did not approve of being a servant or slave to anyone. The only type of person who could command him, aside from a god, was a necromancer. He too was undead and though his will was much stronger then these shambling toys, it was nothing against someone powerful in the necromantic arts. A necromancer knew he was here and obviously wanted him for something and they did not seem to care if he was in one piece or not. He would have to find them first or flee and Darklight never ran from a fight.

With a clenched fist and his hardlight machete he waited for the shambling horde to come into striking distance before he started wading into them.

NESENTRA

Darklight’s spike attack was very effective at dispatching the hunters. They were not prepared for such an attack of hardlight and the spikes easily ripped through the remaining three hunters which were too close to even THINK about evading.

The zombies meanwhile would send the message back, before they were dispatched, of the blind woman who had “cured” them of their zombieness. As Nesentra was heading towards Darklight she told the driver to stop. She felt it, something was interfering with her magic….

“What is this…Someone dares to interfere with MY magic…!?” She growled, then closed her eye and focused… She was searching for the threads of this magic, and could feel it was heading towards… “My new toy. Driver. Lets go faster, we need to arrive before she does.”

With that the limo turned, tires screeching and the vehicle flew off towards Darklight’s location. It would take her a few minutes to arrive, but he’d know she was coming, because the zombies would seem to grow more emboldened, charging him like an army of ants.

These were nothing compared to him most likely, his hardlight machete would easily rip through the horde of zombies but it wasn’t their strength, but their sheer mass and numbers which he’d be up against as more and more climbed from the sewers and dark alleyways, all trying to grab him.
