History:
Jack Esmond was mentally unstable at a very young age. He was fascinated with pain, often cutting himself just to feel it. Eventually, he chose to see how other people reacted to it. On a normal day, when his mother was making smoothies, he quickly grabbed her arm and put it in the blender. He then turned it on with her hand still inside it, and you can guess how that resulted. He then went on to torturing and killing the family dog by strapping it down and setting off a bottle rocket in its mouth. He was brought to a psychiatric center to see what was wrong, and after three days he was declared mentally stable.
However, when he got to middle school, his instability came back. He pushed a girl in front of a high-speed train after she laughed at him for asking her out. He soon continued this after getting in a fight with another boy who said he looked like a wimp during a Zoo trip, ending up in the boy getting tossed into a crocodile pit and mutilated by the crocodiles. After getting sent to the Principal's office for this, he took one of the principal's pens and smashed the Principal's head on the desk, right through the pen.
Getting sent home due to this and awaiting a trial, Jack's mental state only got worse. His father came in his room to talk to him, but it ended up in Jack using his father's machete he taken and had hidden in his closet to slice his father's head in half, instantly killing him. The authorities then took Jack and sent him to an insane asylum at a younger age than most. After everything Jack had done, along with the death of her husband, Jack's mother eventually became extremely stressed and depressed and committed suicide by shooting herself in the head.
As Jack had no other relatives, he remained in the asylum for 10 years, getting extreme psychiatric treatments until the doctor's finally declared him sane. He was now 25 years old, his mental state was now much better, and he had forgotten about all the atrocities he had done as a child.
He enlisted as a mercenary in a Private Military Company, and learned many new combat tactics, ranging from Martial Arts to Demolitions. Jack had become proficient as a marksman and a demolitions expert, as well as being a hand-to-hand combatant. However, his mental instincts were soon put to the test as he noticed one of his fellow mercenaries, one who he had worked with a lot, was enjoying killing and torturing a little too much. He began feeling an increased sense of the need to torture for fun, and reported his fellow mercenary's actions to the high chain of command and getting his friend booted back to Australia.
Eventually, the PMC was approached to get volunteers for a new type of super soldier serum based off of the ones from the eighties. Naturally, Jack was one of the test subjects. The serum gave him enhanced durability and stamina. However, the serum also unlocked the dangerous parts of his mind that the asylum doctors had worked 10 years to get rid of. Except now, it came in full force.
Jack killed all of the doctors and test subjects in a fit of insanity, brutally killing them with whatever objects he had at his disposal, whether that be a buzz saw blade splitting someone in half, or drowning someone in a liquid tube. Jack even admit that it wasn't personal, he was only doing it for fun.
After his murder spree, Jack embraced his insanity, and it allowed him to control his actions a little bit. After escaping the lab, he went back to the company, explaining that the doctors killed the others and he barely escaped. While the PMC heads let their guards down after hearing this news, Jack took a machine gun and mowed them down. He left the last one alive, only so he could make a statement that he was running things now, and killed the remaining PMC head along with his family.
Many of the other mercenaries attempted to go against Jack, but were mercilessly slaughtered by him, often in extremely brutal and gruesome fashions. Few of the mercenaries were left, and those that were left followed under Jack's command, who now called himself Agent Atrocity, due to the number of kills he had left in his wake, as well as the nature of how he executed those kills. He now runs the small but fierce group of mercenaries, often forcing the ones who fail their missions to fight to the death to remain in the group, otherwise get killed in a gruesome way by Atrocity.
Long story short, Agent Atrocity may be more insane than the Joker in how his mind works. He won't think twice about killing someone unless he gets a really really really good reason not to, and that's hard to do. Atrocity loves death, violence, suffering, and destruction, so anyone who shares that trait with him will get along with him well.
He also is a big fan of Gotham's Tap Room in North Burnley, and can often be found having a chat with Catwoman in the back of the room. The two have been good friends for a while and often catch up on stories, though Atrocity often looks out for the Bat while he's there.
