Coming Home (ask to join)

"Yeah... Plane is landing now. No Jack, Power Gurl won't be arriving for a few days."

"Well... !@#$. You think she'll at least sign the poster I have of her?"

"Why are you asking me?"

"I mean, you're the one dating her, Ava. Ooh! I could grab my camera and get a picture with both her and Thundergirl! !@#$! A group photo! 'Jack and the Tribunals'."

Ava let out a sigh as the plane began its descent. She glanced out the window and took in the sights. Latrobe, Pennsylvania. As the plane's wheels hit the runway, Ava let out a sigh.

"Listen... I need to get going. Plane is landing now. I'll call you when I'm settled in."

"Alright... just remember, you promised me I would meet them."

"I know. I keep my promises.

The cyborg sat down in the waiting terminal, letting out a sigh. She glanced around the waiting area, thinking to herself. This had been the last place she'd seen her father, before saying goodbye and leaving for Gotham. Ava lowered her head a bit, cursing under her breath. If she had only listened to him, and stayed in the town. Now, here she was. Unable to apologize for running away. Unable to tell him about the wonderful people she'd met, or the things she had experienced. No, that had passed. Instead, she sat alone in the waiting area, head hug low and sadness slowly creeping into her mind. Within a few moments, she pushed herself up off of the seat and wandered towards the exit. She approached the rental car she had, letting out a sigh. It certainly wasn't her Shelby, and it'd take some getting used to. Ava packed her things into the trunk, quickly loading her sidearm and hiding it under her jacket. She collapsed into the driver's seat, shifting it into gear.

Ava glanced around as she crossed into Greensburg, her hometown. A smile slowly came to her face as she saw the mall in the distance. Memories of her youth came back to her, along with memories of underage smoking and black clothing. She let out a small sigh, thinking back to when she wore spiked collars and chains instead of Kevlar armor. Before attaching mechanical limbs to herself was a daily occurance.

She drove for a few minutes, before turning onto a back road. She turned into a 'hidden' driveway, marked by a yellow sign. Ava looked up at the wooden two-story house, letting out a sigh. She stepped out of the car and grabbed her things.

"Well.... good to be home, I guess..."

Ava sat at the dining room table, a half-assembled M4 sitting in front of her as well as several other items. War medals, photos, drawings she made as a kid. Anything Ava could find that her father had kept, she had gathered up. She carefully took hold of an old Polaroid, lifting it up. Her father was in the picture with another man, both in full combat gear. She thought for a moment, then turned it over.

"Khe San, Vietnam. 1971."

Ava shook her head, studying the photo. Her father wasn't dressed like the average soldier. He was cloaked in a tiger-stripe uniform, with a carbine hanging from his shoulder and a bandanna tied around his head. She raised a brow, then quickly looked around at the other photos. Eventually, she came across a patch. A skull with a beret covering the crown. The symbol of the Mac-V Special Operations Group. She shook her head, setting the patch down.

"Sir, she's entered town."

The being leaned back in his chair, stretching out. He tapped gauntlet-covered fingers against his kevlar, crossing his legs at his ankles.

"Is she alone?"

"We believe so, sir."

He turned, looking through the dimly-lit room at the man. His informant was dressed in black camouflage, much like himself, but carried a rifle. The being stood, his long coat falling down to just below his knees.

"Where is she now, agent?"

"She is in the Shalmer residence sir. It would appear she has no idea that we are here."

"Good. Good. Let us keep it that way."

The being reached up to his face, fingers caressing the silver harlequin's mask that covered his face. He took a deep breath, the sound of machinery coming alive sounding from within him. He pulled his hand down, looking at the soldier in front of him.

"Bring her here. Alive."

"Sir, she may put up a fight."

"I said alive. Unharmed. Breathing..."

"Understood, Sir Talos."

The masked man shot up, staring at the soldier in front of him. He stretched out his hand, and several strands of silver came from beneath his sleeve. They began to slowly weave together, forming a large-caliber handgun. He raised it up, resting on his shoulder.

"If what I ask is too much, then I shall go myself. Although... that would make you and your men worthless to me. You would not want to be considered worthless, would you?"

"... N-no sir. We will carry out the mission and bring her to you."

"Good."

Talos lowered the weapon, and it slowly broke down into the silver strands once more. He cracked his neck as the silver shot back up his sleeve. Hate-filled eyes stared at the soldier in front of him.

"Take whatever you need. Shalmer is no idiot, and she will most likely have reinforcements. As for any others with her... Kill them. Leave nobody standing. Just bring the girl to me, alive."

"Yes sir. Understood."

Ava sat on the couch, flipping through an old photo album she had found. The television was on in the background, but she paid no attention to it. Instead, her cybernetic fingers flipped through the memories on the pages.

She closed the book, picking up her phone and dialing Powergirl. She listened to it ring, then let out a sigh as it went to the answering machine. At that moment, she heard her doorbell ring.

"Just... just a minute! Hey, Kara. Funeral is this Friday. I texted you the address of the house earlier. So... I'll see you-"

A loud 'thump' was heard as the hinge on the door exploded in a shower of splinters. Ava looked over, jumping up from the couch. The phone fell from her hand as she reached back for her pistol. A second shot rang out, and the door fell. A canister flew into the room, and gas began leaking from it. Several men in gas masks and body armor stormed into the room.

Ava quickly snapped off a shot, catching the point-man just above the kevlar plate. The second soldier fired, catching her in the left leg. She stumbled from the impact, before keeling over in a fit of coughs. One of the armed men tossed his rifle to the side and charged her, taking her down to the ground.

"This is Delta 2. We've secured the second child."

Ava looked up through tear-filled eyes.

"Second... child? What... are you..."
"Shut it. Delta 3, secure the rest of the building."
"Sir, we have a phone."

The soldier looked over, shaking his head. Another of the armed men walked over and stepped down on it, crushing the phone.

"Take her back. Talos will want to see her."

Power Girl felt her phone vibrating, but she was so sore from an earlier fight. She let it buzz until she remembered, "Oh crap, Ava was going to call!" She grabbed the phone and saw it was a missed call.

"Damn!" She dialed her voice mail messages and heard her. "Okay, so Friday and... what is that noise?" She could hear the door break down and then gas canisters. "Noooo!" She quickly got into her uniform and flew out the door.

"I am coming!" she flew at superspeed, breaking the sound barrier and headed to where?

She stopped mid air and realized she did not know where Ava was staying. "Gaaaaaaaaah! ZEXY!" she tapped comes, "ZEXY, I need to know where this phone number was last called, and I need to know now!" >Calm your tits, Power... well we know what I was going to say. Tracking now. Coordinates sent.< "Thanks!"

She flew again and got to the scene of the crime. she could tell that the gas was still in the building, but she did not see Ava.

"Damn it, where did she go?" One of the men called back on the radio. "uh boss... you will not believe what I am looking at right now." he sent him a photo of Power Girl's cleavage. "oh wait, not that one." another pic sent of Power Girl.

"What do you want me to do with her?"

Talos sat at his desk, twirling the pistol around his finger. He listened to the chatter over the radio, slowly nodding to himself as he heard confirmation of the capture. He paused as they continued speaking, grabbing onto the pistol to halt it. It slowly broke down, the slivers of metal sliding back under his sleeve.

"What... are you seeing...."

"I'm sending it to your phone now, boss."

Talos looked over at his phone, eyes narrowing behind the silver mask. Powergirl's face stared back at him, and a white-hot rage filled him. He reached over, picking it up with a gauntlet-covered hand.

"Evacuate... now. I will have the strike team ready. This isn't the first time they've encountered her."

"Sir, what about the house? What would you like done?"

"Burn it."

He paused for a moment, looking down at a manila folder on his desk. A government seal was stamped on it, along with 'Les Enfants Dous'. Talos leaned back in his chair, letting out a sigh.

"Burn it down. With her inside of it. Let her feel the cleansing fire that was used to burn so many monstrosities before her..."

Meanwhile, in Metropolis, a man in his mid-twenties with a clean-shaven face and black hair was frantically dialing Ava's number. Several others sat around him, all dressed in grey fatigues. One looked over, letting out a sigh.

"No word from the boss, Jack?"

Jack, the black-haired man, let his head drop. He redialed the number, thinking to himself. He'd been left in charge by Ava, and was beginning to panic.

"SHe's not picking up."

"She's probably busy, Jack. The boss gets busy from time to time."

Another of the men chimed in.

"Yeah isn't Supergirl there with her or something? Or that Canary?"

"Nah that's Poison Ivy you're thinking of."

"No I'm pretty sure it's Superman. Boss isn't gay."

Jack let out a sigh, looking up. He shook his head, and couldn't help but laugh.

"Dumbasses. She's with Power... Girl. Why didn't I think of it before?! Rusty! Get the gear ready. Reyes, fire up the helicopter. We're heading to Pennsylvania."

Jack stood from his seat as the others began moving to get ready. He reached into a pocket on his shirt, withdrawing a small notebook. After flipping through several pages of notes, windage evaluations, and other numbers, he came across one labelled 'Powergirl'. Dialing it into his phone, he took a deep breath.

"Alright... don't geek out... don't geek out... this is serious this time. Just ask where the Boss is. Don't... panic."

As he heard the line connect, his heart jumped. A grin stretched ear-to-ear. He dropped the notebook.

"Powergirl! Awesome! I finally get to talk to you!"

Re: Coming Home (ask to join)

The merc heard the order, but at the same time, watched as the woman that just flew down from the sky walked into the house. “Sir, I just said that Power Girl. The Power Girl, is here. The one that is bullet proof and can fly into space, while carrying this entire city block. That Power Girl.”

He waited for a reply, and knew already that it was not coming. So he prepared to torch the house. “This is going to suck.” He said quietly.

Inside the house, Power Girl walked into and looked around. She could see the signs of struggle, without being a detective. The windows were broken, a table was flipped, and there was blood on the floor. “What happened here?” She asked, as she looked for more clues. “Who took you.” She was not even sure if Ava was even alive anymore, but she took comfort in the fact that there was no body. If they wanted her dead, why take her away? It was easier to just leave the body, wasn’t it?

“I wish I listened to you more, Bruce. I am not good at this detective crap. Give me something to hit. Give me something to-“ She stopped speaking as she saw a thermite grenade go thru the window and hit the floor. “Great.”

The room instantly was left in a superheated explosion. The merc threw another one in the kitchen, and then he felt the hand on his shoulder. Power Girl was there, and her cape was singed. He tried to struggle, but it was pointless, and she easily lifted him off his feet and threw him into his van. The can was nearly 20 feet away, and she threw him like he was a baseball.

“Where is she?” Power Girl walked toward the man. He groaned, and struggled to stand, when he saw her move from one spot to holding him, in the time he blinked. “I said. Where did you take her?” The groggy man punched her in the abs, and broke his wrist. “Arrrghhhhh!” She looked at his hand, and then threw him into the garden. The house was in an inferno now. “!@#$ you, I am not saying anything.” He was defiant.
Power Girl walked to him again, and asked again, “Where did you take her?” He was crawling now. His wrist was broken and now his ankle was twisted. She stood over him, to he kicked her in the crotch… and broke his foot. “Faaaaaaaaaauuuuuk! What the hell are you made of?” Kara smiled, “Kryptonian, dummy. Now, where is she at?”

When her phone rang, she had it set to link to her comms, so she tapped it. “This is Power Girl. Who is this?” The man tried to punch her again, this time in her breast. At least that was a little softer, but still it hurt him more than her. She looked him over, as she spoke. “What is this about?” She grabbed the man by his leg and threw him a few feet away. She stood there and waited for a reply.

Re: Coming Home (ask to join)

"Oh man, she answered!"

The men walked back over with their gear on and weapons in hand. They'd changed out of their slate grey uniforms and instead wore everyday clothing. The one motioned to Hefter, signing for him to make it quick.

"Oh. Uh... this is Hefter. Ja-Jack Hefter. Ava's second in command? Yeah. Right. Ava wasn't.. picking up her phone. I figured I'd cal you and ask what was going on. We've got a team ready to mobilize should we be needed."

One of the men walked back into the room, a SAW in his hands. He shut the door on it, glancing up.

"Oh he's talking to Supergirl?! Man why didn't nobody tell me! C'mon... y'all gotta tell me these things!"

"It's Superman, idiot."

"Nah it's-"

Jack looked up, pulling the phone away. He narrowed his eyes at the men, a look of anger and disappointment on his face.

"LOOK. It's Powergirl, the one in white. Yes, they're dating. Yes, Boss is gay. So what, get over it, you're trained killers and we're the only PMC hiring. Now shut up, get your gear ready, and await the signal."

Raising the phone back to his ear, he let out a sigh.

"Sorry about that. So, what's the situation?"

Ava was dragged out of the van, light shining through the black cloth that covered her face. She felt a man grab her, and quickly reacted. Her left hand rotated and rolled back, almost as if it was broken. A cone of flame jetted out. However, Ava felt the arm get grabbed and twisted to the side.

"Dammit! !@#$ has some tricks up her sleeve! Jackson, get the other arm."

Ava winced as she was restrained, kicking and fighting to get away. While she struggled, she was dragged across the dirt. She heard a door open, the the sounds of boots on concrete. Ava was then shoved into a chair, and felt something tied around her. The black bag was pulled off of her head, and she looked up at her attackers.

Four men, all in black kryptek camo. They were armed with the standard rifle, and their faces were covered with ballistic masks. However, a fifth man walked up from the back. His pants were the same black and blue camouflage pattern, but a trenchcoat covered him. Beneath the black hood, Ava could make out a silver mask, smiling at her.

"Welcome to my humble abode, Ava Shalmer."

The figure walked forward, crouching before her.

"Shame we could not be more hospitable, but... well, we all know what you are like. Even the JT knows what you are like."

"Who.. who are you?"

"Ah... now giving it away would ruin all of the fun, wouldn't it? But... I know your little caped friends appreciate a good nickname. Don't they, Lady Shade?"

Ava froze, looking at the man. It was common knowledge that she worked with the JT, but how did he know about her alias? She glanced away for a moment, thinking up a plan of escape.

"I know your plan, Shalmer. You will try to escape and call your Wolf friends. Or... one of your Kryptonian lovers. Do you not remember the power plant? Or Israel? Yes, your beloved Powergirl took one of our soldiers prisoner. Yet... we still have the weapons, don't we?"

A soldier stepped up with an odd-looking rifle. It was straight, like a shotgun, with a small battery pack set in the top. He handed it over to the masked man.

"Back before the... settlers came with their plagues and guns, do you know what was worshipped here? The sun, Ava. It was seen as the giver of life. The most powerful force in the world."

The masked man took the rifle in both hands, looking it over. Ava watched him, waiting for any slip up. She waited, listening to him, waiting for him to make a mistake.

"So we took it. Harnessed it. Turned it into pure energy. Now... we already know thanks to Israeli scientists that your little girlfriend does not like red sunlight. So... we decided to make the cure to this... alien disease."

He fired the rifle to the side, a bright red beam tearing into the wall.

"Pure red sunlight! Harnessed and weaponized! She may be faster than a bullet, but she is not faster than light itself."

Ava watched as the beam flew from the weapon. She now realized who this group was. Her head slowly slumped as it sank in.

"... Der Tempest. You're... The Tempest..."

"Good job, Agent Shalmer. Now, do you know what you are?"

Ava blinked, looking up. Why did he ask that question? Was he going to go on about how she was a traitor to her own race?

"I.. I am Ava Shalmer."

"Yes... You are. Yet you are /so/ much more..."
