Re: We Need An Event!

Todd, I understand you and Mythrilfist's point of view about this, however. it's not really as bad as you would imagine. As for "crushing out new RPer's" no one is trying to actually get rid of people in the community that are new. Not even the trolls of the community go that far. With that said. I agree that people need to take this genre extremely less serious. I'm not saying that it has to be slap stick silliness and who cares what is what 100% of the time.

However, when we have members completely raging over the quantum physics of an alien bug flinging a meteor from one planet to another, it's time to seriously town down the logical real world ideals. It's a video Game and the Role Play is about people who have amazing super powers and or are aliens from another world.. nothing about this genre should be taken as 100% real. meaning from now on I ask for the community to put your legal, science, medical, military, etc. degrees and masters and doctorates at home! we don't need you to be a super knowledgeable mega know it all. we just want you to understand your character and understand your characters powers and be able to keep up with their strengths and weaknesses and be able to have a character who has logical lengths of limitations.

Even Superman has things he can not and will never be able to do.

Now then with that said I am brought to the point of canon/non-canon, and quantity control.

There is a very good reason that the Canon/Non-Canon argument is there. For one, if there was is a person playing Canon they are held to a vastly higher set of guidelines. you have the characters comics to look at and because of that they are expected to hold nearly 100% to the comic character being played. So to avoid this of being an issue, we ask those who play canon characters to make Non-Canon characters so that they can first get a good feel for the community and style of RP that goes on. This idea is not to "stop people from playing canon, save for a special few." like some salty people have stated, it's to make sure that we don't have people who play a canon character that is played absolutely wrong and or plays all but 6 of the canon characters in DC.

So you see it's not to restrict people it's so that we all can have a more balance in the community. As for the whole issue of what sort of character. the reason that Kryptonians are shunned so hard is because too many in the past have simply made the characters they created, unacceptable. Meaning they have either made the character with no weaknesses, given it weaknesses but put it foolishly behind the protection of an unbeatable suit of armor, or just made and then RP'd the character with vastly too much power, absolutely no consideration to the social quirks, a terribly conceived and or totally ridiculous backstory that makes absolutely no sense to exist as a Kryptonian. Furthermore there have been a large number of people who have tried to make RP Kryptonians and all in all myself and SG are the only two who have stuck around through all of it. as for other arc-types of character. I like to say that people should really start learning to research their characters arc-type. a Yellow lantern is not going to start out at Sinestro's level of power. that just makes no sense. which, brings me to my point in all this.

Our problems aren't in the characters we play it's all in our egos. We make ourselves up to be so super strong in character because we all want to be the main hero. We all want to be the Superman, or Wonder woman, or Batman. and the fact of the matter is just like in real life, we can't be, people. If we were all the most powerful and most superior of everyone else then nothing would work. We would all end up killing one another. So, the idea here is "Don't be all powerful, just be smart. Think about what you are doing before you make the character." and always make sure to allow your characters no matter how strong they are, to share the fun of victory with others. Because dancing alone at the party is never any fun and makes you look silly.

Re: We Need An Event!

Real Life kept me away (work, traveling, health issues etc) But I've finally taken a needed vacation, and I can say I think the issue is there are some people who generally make up absolutely lore breaking characters. NOW that's fine and dandy, I don't care personally, but some folks can't accept someone playing Superman's half bro or whatever.

And so the community falls into the same trap all rp groups fall into if not changed, RPing with known quantities and rping with people they are comfortable with. Partly because they know how person A will react, and partly because people's time is limited, they don't want to waste it rping with Spiderbabe 99 who may or may not want to RP their character, who may not know anything about the lore of the game and just make up absolutely crazy stuff which will make you roll your eyes.

I rped with a guy who once claimed to be the true incarnation of Death, complete with god like power, now why would anyone want to entertain something like that, subject their character, their story to something along those guys.

I've seen someone RP an actual housecat that talked and did karate. So while yes, we need to be more open, yes, giant RP guilds definitely need to take the lead, open their doors moe to the community, allow non guild members in perhaps, there has to be a line someplace.

I'd also add, there ARE events which have been attempted, proposed, even began RPed, but either lack of interest or just no organization killed them. Look at this very forum section, in the last 6 months there have been two proposed RP events. I know one of them was pretty fun for the people involved, I think events shouldn't happen every week, but i do think there could be more of them. But you have to ask yourself, if an event doesn't interest you, or if the people running it, you're not fond of their rp style, why would you join it? or would you?

I want to state that my Event has started. I am posting things now about it. Xree are on their way, and I have been RPing the last few nights with my league, to get it rolling.

Expect to see this RP opened up soon, to everyone.
