Akasha Agni

Birth Name: Lyubitshka Kováč

Home: Born in Slovakia, but her family was constantly moving, spending most of their time in the hills, in the southern parts of Serbia.

Age: 19
Gender: Female
Height: 4' 11"
Weight: 92 lbs.

Physical Appearance: Akasha is a very petite young lady, extremely small but very muscular, in large part a result of helping her father with his blacksmithing. She has black hair and hazel eyes. Because bright light gives her a splitting headache, she is most often seen wearing dark sunglasses during the day.

Fighting Style: Extremely chaotic hand-to-hand combat, coupled with often violent acrobatic maneuvers, resulting in a "hit and run" style of engagement. During fights, she can often be as much of a danger to herself as those around her. She also has an affinity for fire, finding that she can summon it at will and without harming herself.

History: Born to Roma parents, "Lyubi" lived the life of a nomad. Her parents' only permanent home was a wagon which contained her father's wares, which usually had a portable forge drawn behind it. She never officially attended school; however, whenever her parent's caravan crossed paths with her uncles, he would sit her down and teach her basic skills. He even made it a point to teach her some of the English which he learned during a stint in Britain, knowledge which her father deemed useless, stupid, but otherwise harmless.

Her caravan and group, like so many others, fell afoul of the locals in many area, and she found herself victim of the blatant racism against Roma which seemed to run rampant throughout Central Europe. Often times, even local authorities ... cops, judges, government officials ... treated them horrendously, stereotyping her and her people as lazy criminal drifters. The violence and prejudice became even more pronounced as her father got older and more successful in his blacksmithing endeavors. The last straw was when they settled in a small Serbian town where her father took a job at a local foundry.

Many of the townsfolk, unappreciative of this uppity Roma who took a job meant for a real Serbian, began a reign of terror against her and her family. This ended in the mob trapping her and her family in their small home and setting fire to it as the "police" and the "authorities" stood by watching, laughing, and in some cases, participating. Unbeknownst to anyone, the rain of exobytes had begun not long before.

Her last memories were of fire and smoke, burning heat, and the dying screams of her family as they burned to death. She then awoke on the Brainiac ship confused and scared. She became aware of the powers which the exobytes bestowed on her only after retaliating to an attack by a Brainiac guard. At nearly the same instance, she received a message from a communicator which she had stolen from some stranger named Calculator ... who, along with another odd fellow named Lex Luthor, got her off the ship and put her English skills to the test in a crisis.

Personality: Akasha was always rather tomboyish, and despite the best efforts of her peaceful and patient father, seemed to live by the ante-golden rule: do unto others before they do unto you. She showed a tendency to deal with people in an exaggerated fashion of how they dealt with her. Those who were kind were repayed with lavish kindness and gifts, those who showed her the slightest inkling of malice were treated as ruthlessly as her station would allow. She never backed down from a scrap. Her father often said that Lyubi was his favorite daughter, but at times also seemed to want to be his favorite son.

Alignment: Because of Akasha's upbringing and simple life as a "Gypsie" in Central Europe, the world for the most part passed her by. Though very vaguely aware of Superman, and stories about a huge city called Metropolis delivered by her uncle, she knew next to nothing about superheroes. What she did know was the plight of her people, and the oppression of those who pretend to be in power. Most of these oppressors were paragons of the community, the righteous, the beacons on a hill bringing light into the world through their great and glorious deeds.

The true enemies of both personal freedom and the freedom of the Roma are just those people. Governments by their nature are constructs of oppression, and thus no one is truly free until all government, all authority, is put to the end and each person can, individually, be their own authority. Though typecast as a villain, she recognizes that the tyranny of the Joker or Lex Luthor would be no better than that of Superman or Batman. Yet she also realizes that the people would be quicker to rise up against who they perceive as a villain oppressor, especially if there were no heroes of note left to save them. So, to kill the villains, to destroy all authority and ensure anarchy, the heroes must die as a prelude to destroying the villains.

Then, just maybe, Akasha Agni, the Spirit of Fire, can once again be Lyubi, can once again return home to her father's forge ...
