Getting Back on Track: Open RP. All Are Welcome

Idolicide looked over the city, his eyes little more than slots behind his mask as he peered from the roof top. Metropolis. Moving here meant more opportunities to continue his work. More jobs to pay for the things he needed. And most importantly, more hero targets to clear out.

His last target struggled behind him. A man in a black suit of armor tried to free himself from the chains. Etching on the links showed a magical rune of some kind, which kept the otherwise powerful hero weak. "When I get out of this, I'll break your damn neck!" He said through gritted teeth as Idolicide turned to face him.

The large, muscular man in black armor walked to his target. "Shadow Enforcer... that's you, right?" He asked his hostage.

"That's right. It's what they are going to carve on your grave stone." The hero added with a smirk. "What do you plan to do, huh? Go on, tell me all your dastardly plans for me so I can throw them in your face when I fr-" the big mouthed man was interrupted as Idolicide grabbed him by the throat.

Without a word, the villain in his flex armored suit dragged Shadow to the edge of the building, wrapped a chain with the same magical ruins around his neck and threw him over the edge, hanging him. Shadow Enforcer struggled as he started to lose breath.

Idolicide looked out at the city again, his eyes focused. "Here fishy fishy fishy..." He said under his breath.

A large, wretched rat watched from the corners of the roof, the hair on the back of it's head scraggly and torn. It licked it's lips, it could smell the fear scent, the loud noises of the men, it wanted to flee, to run, to hide, to stay still.

"No." The inexorable voice in it's mind said. "Get closer." And the rat, trembling, crawled out from the shadows, trying to get a better angle to look at the armored villain, Idolicide.

One paw after another, it stopped for a moment, nibbling on some small piece of rubbish, it's drifting over to the noose leading over to the rope. Fear. Death-scent. Struggle. Those things were far more interesting than Idolicide, far more likely to be food. Far less likely to be a threat.

"No. Focus." the voice said again, and the rat turned it's beady, eyes up, trying to stay as silent and still as possible now that it was closer. It gazed up, frozen, taking in the whole view of this armored man.

Shadow struggled less as his face turned a horrid blue/purple color. He gasped for air and his eyes drifted up towards the sky and the cruel man who did this to him.

Idolicide scanned the skyline. "Hmph. Figures you wouldn't have a friend who would want to save you. Well, if no one takes the bait, the bait dies and we try again." He said, turning from the edge of the roof, from the man who slowly stopped struggling.

The massive man caught sight of the rat.
Through his mask, he stared at the creature. Disgusting to some, but an admirable species to this killer. The little beasts lived through damn near everything, something Idol could respect. He walked past the rat to the fire escape to make his way down off the roof.

Frozen still the rat did not think, the rat did not have time to feel, merely a small trickle of maddening fear as Idolicide walked by. But the man at the other end, the voice inside the rat's head, pondered what he had seen. He thought and felt, not as others did, no. His thoughts his feelings were different. Better he would say.

"So," The voice modulator on his jaw-brace said, a small sensor mounted on the chinguard reading his jaw muscles and the subvocal intonations in what was left of his voicebox, projecting it through the speaker. "So, this is what the night has held for us. How...Fortunate." The speaker hissed. And inside his mind he reached out to the rat, reading it's bio-signs on the HUD display on the inside of his visor.

On the roof the rat ran over, taking a long hard look at the asphyxiated, purpling hero. Staring at it intently, scanning up and down the form, focusing on the taught noose, on the look of anguish on the man's face. On the pain.

Hesitating to leave it turned around and moved to follow Idolicide off of the roof.

THWIP!
There was a silent sound but a sound nonetheless as a string of orbed silk shot across the distance of the rooftop, striking the chain and severing it as if a blow torch through a hot fudge sunday. Shadow Enforcer instantly fell to the concrete roof though whether or not the Orbweaver's intervention was timely or not remained to be seen.

The man in bile-yellow and black armor crawled off the ledge of the roof he was crouched upon and crept carefully, his head scanning left and right to see if there were any nasty surprises for him. So far he saw only a rat but found himself not hungry. He arrived at the Shadow Enforcer and looked again carefully before turning toward the costumed villain's face.

Shadow Enforcer collapsed to the concrete roof and inhaled air quickly, gasping for what ever could fill his lungs. His eyes were unfocused, bit he could see a man in yellow and black standing near him. He tried to speak, but the only sound that escaped his throat was a high pitched whining sound as his larynx had been damaged.

The noise, however, stopped Idolicide in his tracks. Looking over his shoulder at the new comer, he smiled behind his mask. "Well well... looks like someone does give a !@#$ after all." He turned to Orbweaver, his black ballistic fiber weaved suit held tight around him. "Yellow and black suit... not enough to go on. Who might you be?"

The arrival of the spider-thief caused the man behind the rat's mind to cackle inwardly.

"Oh, a fortunate night indeed." He said, the HUD on his visor changing with a mental prompt. The HUD now displaying an overview of the neighborhood, sets of blinking red dots scattered throughout.

"Yes, yes, reroute felines B22 through B27, and Pack E is nearby we can have them cover the ground. What about the rats? Ahh yes, another twenty or so should be sufficient." With each comment he reached out with his mind to the respective animals, and the red dots on the HUD began to move, converging on the building where Orbweaver and Idolicide now met.

And on that same roof the rat carefully moved away from all three masked men, retreating to a small corner, where it turned and stared back at them, watching, and recording, intently.

Orbweaver's malformed insect-like head turned toward Shadow Enforcer, and pondered his still living form. What Orbweaver was considering, was his own interest or care. Was he relieved? Aggravated? The glowing green eyes on his armored helm darkened once then brightened as he looked back to Idolicide and answered the question raised.

"I'm Orbweaver. No one special, really. Just not someone who didn't care to swing by in time to watch a snuff film being played out. How about you? Something personal going on here or just looking to thin out the costumed night life a little bit?"

As he waited for a reply, the 'man' inside the armor felt the hairs on his skin start to stand and a small sensation like static electricity pass over him. Something was amiss in the air... as if the walls were closing in on him. a trap forming. His hear began to race and his breathing pattern changed. A claustrophobic feeling led to growing anxiety.
